after hitting a few outdoors stores (gander mountain, bass pro/outdoor world, sportsman warehouse) i was very shocked to find that walmart has the best price on 12guage shotgun shells. god i hate giving them more money

walmart almost always has the best price on ammo. look there first to see if they have what you want.

Do all walmarts sell ammo? Am I just not looking in the right place of the store?

I think most do, but I know its not all. Also, I know that lots of them are having trouble keeping their shelves stocked. I'd definitely recommend calling ahead and asking if they have what you are looking for. (they might also put it on hold for you)

the 10-day waiting period ended tonight at 6:07. I showed up around 6:40 only to find the store actually closes at 6. for some reason the employee I called on the phone to ask about my pick-up time did not find it necessary to inform me that the store is not actually open at 6:07. anyways I'll pick it up tom morning.

yah, last few times we've stopped by walmart, we were lucky they had some.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the Glock model 27. IT's $609 with nite sites including tax. The H&K is 849 no ns. I think I was initially leaning towards the H&K because I havn't owned one of those before.

The Glock also appears a bit thinner but I am intrigued by the LEM trigger of the H&K.

A lot of newer Wal Marts dont carry firearms or ammunition. If they do it should be behind the counter in the hunting/fishing department. Its really difficult to get 9mm, .38, .40, and .45 ammo at the moment - Remington has their manufacturing facilities open 24/7 and they still cant keep up with demand.
02-17-2009 , 10:15 PM
I went to the local Walmart today to try to by ammo for target shooting. I couldn't get .38 or .357 for my revolver, but I was able to get 500 rounds of .40 S&W. They only had 250 left. Zee was telling me about people stowing away cases of the stuff and I thought it was just crazy Montana people. Now I'm not so sure... Those shelves were CLEANED OUT!!!
02-18-2009 , 02:44 AM
the 40 wont fit in your 357 so try and insert it and then hammer it in and maybe you can get it to fit.

walmart gets ammo in most everyday at night after they close and stock it sometime in the morning. it gets sold out in a few hours. so get there early but you dont get much choice in what comes in for the day.
02-18-2009 , 02:48 AM
the 40sw is a great caliber. and it is being used to replace the 9mm by some depatments. but with the fairly new hi power 9mm ammo like thecor-bon reaching 1300fps and 400 pounds of energy you are real close to the 40 and get alot of benefits on easier to find cheap ammo to shoot. with plenty of knockdown power for self defense.

I haven't been following the whole thread, but are you a beginner? If so, a Glock 27 is a HORRIBLE gun for a beginner. Tiny and hard to hold onto, with sharp recoil.

I'll check my super secret Walmart, which seems to have better ammo availability than most. If they have any of the above, I'll pm you the location.

No, I'm not a beginner. I agree with you about hard to hold onto but I got the M23 mags with a wrap around for an optional mag. So it's a lot like a M23 but shorter.

good thing I put my .40 in my glock. I only struggled with trying to jam it into my revolver for a few minutes.

Pig's secret walmart sounds promising. Hope to hear good news!

Most people are allowed to carry it around on the street, but it differs from state to state. Here in Pennsylvania, you need to get a license to carry the pistol concealed on your person, the license is very easy to get here in PA. If you don't want to carry it concealed, but would rather wear it openly on your hip like a cop would, you don't need a license at all. Not many people do this, as many people are still very uneducated about gun laws, and gun owners often find its not worth the hassle from people.

A lot of people do, again, concealed.

Protection. The big school shootings, most robberies, most muggings, mall shootings, church shootings, all of these would be so less common if the bad guys knew the good people had guns, too.

Quote:

Many people get guns to protect their family and homes in case of break ins or robberies.

Yes, I'm allowed to carry it. I live in TN. and once you go through a class and fill out the proper paperwork you're allowed to carry it. I carry it for protection. There are some pretty rough areas in Memphis (pretty much all areas have had bad stuff happen.)

i can see why someone wants a gun in his house.

but the more people carry guns on the street, the more likely it is, that a shooting happens.
now you might say "the others (please don't say the bad guys) have guns already, why should i give myself a disadvantage?". what i'm criticizing is the fact that almost everybody is allowed to carry a gun and therefore a lot of people do have one.

all the (relatively rare) shootings i hear of that happen where i live, are basically the same story: some drunk guys get in a fight and someone pulls a gun.
very few people here carry a gun, since it's illegal for most of them. i can only imagine how often people would get shot if there were a lot more guns around.
so it seems like a really bad idea to let everybody have a gun like in the good old wild west.

and school shootings? do you suggest that teachers should have guns?
the people doing this don't think "how likely is it that i'm gonna die because someone else has a gun and can shoot back at me?". they are sick. most of them kill themselves afterwards or get shot by a cop. they don't plan on getting away with it.
if the teacher had a gun, he would certainly be their first victim, and that's about all it would change.

robberies? when nobody has a gun it's just a robbery. when a couple of "heroes" have guns it ends with a bloodbath.

sorry if i am derailing the thread. i just felt like giving my two cents.
