CBorders/anyone else - Have you had your new standards hemmed? I do not wear mine with a turn up, but even with one it seems like they would be too long, i think i need them to be around 2-2.5" shorter. I'm 6'2" fwiw.

I got mine hemmed to 33" from 35.25" and I wish I wouldn't have. They stack really well both at the ankle and the knee (although when new the knee bulge is annoying) so I should have let them stack & fade for a while and then got them hemmed. 99% of the time I wear mine uncuffed as well.

I'm 6'2 and my NS dont even go near the ground unhemmed

They are all 34inch length right?
08-13-2011 , 04:04 PM
They are 35.5.

For me, I will never hem, and most people who do will regret it.

I think my inside leg is 33 or maybe a little shorter, I guess I have short legs/low waist for my height.

I'll get my pair that is 8 months old hemmed rather than my new pair in case I regret it. I wouldn't if they just felt an inch out but 35.5 on my 33 inside leg feels awkward and trails the ground at my heels a little.

Skunkworks do you still have your Men Without a Country jeans? I love everything about mine except how they fit in the thigh. I haven't worn them heavily but the thigh and to some extent the calf are so tight I want to sell them. Will they stretch enough that they won't cling to my legs?
08-14-2011 , 12:19 AM
Nope, they'll still be too tight -- they don't stretch much. I gave up on them a year ago after getting Dior 19cms. You know, the denimhead otaku thing is nice with all of the attention to detail and "quality", but nothing beats a great fit.

How easy is it to return the jeans if they don't fit well? Just seems much easier to try on a bunch of pairs at a store then ordering online basically hoping a particular brand fits you well.

Also, I've come across people saying almost daily wear for 6 months. Do people really wear the same jeans every day? Seems nuts to me.

Check the retailers return policy. Your best bet is to read as much as you can about raw denim and learn about the different cuts, how they fit, how they stretch, etc. try on what you can and then search online to see how those compare to other brands.

Yes people wear their jeans daily for months at a time, sometimes longer. Totally standard and if you're thinking of washing your raw jeans more than once in a great while you're defeating the purpose of purchasing them. They should conform to your body and fade accordingly, making them unique. It's not hard to keep them clean and any odors are killed by setting them in the freezer with baking soda over night.

Skunk,

These are the MWaC's. Pretty sure I got them at least one size too small, but for $40 it was worth trying them:

Effffff it's a good looking fit but yeah one size too small. What waist are you?

Also, to your point about washing frequently defeating the purpose, kiya from self edge will wash his jeans like once every 1-2 months. His fades aren't as intense as others but still decent. As long as you wear your denim decently hard, washing that often won't affect it too bad. But I have seen examples of raws that got washed a few times after being worn lightly by office dad types (MC forum lol) and they looked lifeless and uniformly colored a mediocre blue.

I'm a 31 and those jeans are currently 29. If I could get an inch out of the waist and thigh I'd keep them.
08-14-2011 , 06:48 PM
hahahahha I have a pair of 31s.

Sell them to me, imo. Just bought a pair of patent B-Ball hi's and I think this cut will look awesome tucked.
08-14-2011 , 09:41 PM
White patent BBalls? If so, I can duplicate the fit myself hahahahaha
08-14-2011 , 10:20 PM
yessir, so steeeezy . what kind of shirt would you match these jeans/shoes with?
08-14-2011 , 10:35 PM
got some RRL jeans that retail for like 350 for 50 bucks and they are awesome. not raw they are already distressed but i really like them.

my apc ns dont fit me anymore
08-14-2011 , 10:51 PM
My NS after 2 days of mild wear and one day of heavy/active wear. I need to learn how to take photos.:

So after reading a lot of this thread I get that not washing them but once in a great while is standard. My question is, aside from the "uniqueness" of the fade, what is the advantage of raw denim vs. standard store bought decent jeans?
08-17-2011 , 12:50 PM
sense of superiority that comes with wearing 400$ jeans of course
08-17-2011 , 03:30 PM
Aren't they higher quality? I always assumed so, not sure though. My APC NSs were only 175. RRLs only 220.

it depends.
"raw" means the jeans were never washed, doesn't say @#°§ about the quality.
same with "selvedge denim". terrible cotton woven on shuttle looms in bad condition, operated by ******s will result in jeans of worse quality than a modern standard jean made on a projectile loom.
there are dozens of factors.
but yes, in general selvedge denim is more durable and the self edge cannot fray.

same here.
fading is overrated and for children anyway.

Basically this. Generally the type of fabric used, amount of fabric, the process of dying and weaving the fabric, and the actual assembly of the jeans varies a lot between big box store jeans and those produced by people who take denim seriously (the bulk of their sales being jeans). Prices are higher because material costs are higher (both quality/origin of the fabric and the amount of material used) and the manufacturing process takes longer & is usually more hands-on as well.

got a pair of Levis shrink to fit 501's...I guess they're raw but not selvedge? anyway, I like em. they stood up on their own after the first soak which was fun
08-26-2011 , 11:59 AM
If you like 501s and want to step up in quality, you should check out some of the LVC ones (Levi's Vintage Clothing). The different year models have slightly different fits (I think the '47 has the slimmest fit?)
