It's a Dynalo which if you look on headphile forums people love. For entry level it's pretty much the best and cheapest you can get. I own one and it works oh so well with my Grado HF2

no sir! ive been blasting these bad boys every online sesh... heres my review for the dennon 2000's...

pros

-Super comfy... can bearly feel them on your head.
-super sick bass and sound quality for closed cans
-great for hip hop, rock, jazz
-great unbreakable long thick cord

cons
-pretty big and not the most portable headphones
-dont fold up
-need to figure how to tie that cord down when i go to games and stuff
- some leakage.. dont really care tho

conclusion- the pros outweigh the cons by far...and if u got the cash to spend $300 on some sick cans with great bass then you cant go wrong with these

very happy with my S4i's, but holy cow do they require a ton of burn-in. I thought they were terrible at 1st. Better with about 20 hours, excellent with about 100 hours.

I used to rock the Sennheiser HD555's

BUT!! I recently upgraded to the Shure SRH840s, and couldn't be happier about it.

Need a headset I can use for poker 6-8 hrs a day with great sound cancellation for help with dog noises/roommates/etc. Preferably no batteries since I assume those that function using batteries only last 20 hours or so. ~200$ budget.

Any suggestions?

Are you looking for ear-buds or over-the-ear style? Shure make the SE115-K ear buds, and they have great noise cancellation.

The Sennheiser PXC-300s are also very good, but they are more of an "entry level" (imo) headphone than some of Sennheiser / Shure's other gear. They retail for about $140

EDIT: There is a difference between a "head-set" and "headphones". I assumed you're looking for headphones. A headset (normally) includes the ear-pieces, along with a microphone, to talk via the computer

Hi Roundelay,

Thanks for the response. I'm looking for headphones. What do you mean by the PXC-300s being "entry-level"? Have you personally used them before? Are there any more expensive headphones that would provide better sound-cancellation? I don't like having to play music just to cancel out sound, I just like hearing empty space and poker sounds and my own thought process ... so whatever has the best sound cancellation would be most optimal I think.

Appreciate any input you may have.

Entry-level just means they're not going to break your bank account. They're quality headphones for the sound of what you are looking for. I own a pair of these, but have since moved on to higher end Sennheisers, and now I use Shure SRH840s. There's nothing wrong with the cancellation in them, I believe they block out ~90% outside noise (You will not find 100% cancellation), which is pretty much the standard. One thing I (personally) don't like about them is that they are not "over-the-ear" headphones. That is, they don't completely cover your ear, but the noise cancellation is still top notch. For around $150, you can't really go wrong with them, but for higher quality, you're looking at the $300+ range for Bose QuietControl 15 or QuietControl 3.

Cheers

Thanks again. I forgot to mention I have extremely sensitive ears that can get very very red and painful if I don't have proper over the ear and comfortable headphones. With this new information in mind and a total budget of ~250$, what would you recommend? Tyvm.
03-10-2010 , 11:57 PM
GET NEW EARS IMO
03-11-2010 , 12:00 AM
Well that will cancel out all the ear bud types you could possibly look at, like the Shure SE115. But I would still look at the Sennheiser PXC350 (~150-200), or Bose QuietComfort 2 (~$200). But if you wanted to wait, save a bit more money, and get the Bose QuietComfort 3 for around $300, those would be the ones I would recommend.

QC3's?
03-11-2010 , 12:13 AM
My only issue with the QC3's is the battery life. Is recharging the battery every other day really a price I have to pay for good sound cancellation these days? ... or are any other similar headphones I could get without having to charge batteries?
03-11-2010 , 12:16 AM
It wouldn't seem to be much of a problem if you charge the batteries at night while you're asleep. I mean, I charge my iPod and blackberry every night, and it's all good in the morning.

And hey, you get what you pay for. The QC3s are top shelf quality.
