so true. I don't think the casual fan realizes how sick Penn's ground skills are. another reason I can't wait for the penn/st. pierre rematch.

I think Sherk easily beats griffin.

Aside: Have you guys been watching the Dana White video blogs on youtube? Highly, highly entertaining and actually pretty insightful as well. You get to see a ton of the stuff that goes into making fights happen and how much a promoter has to do. Plus I find dana hilarious. Very, very highly recommended viewing.

TUF tonight

LOL's all around. delgado was clearly the weakest fighter in the house but lmao at junie letting him see a decision. any reasonable fighter would have destroyed either of these guys.

so after watching a few weeks of the show (more sample size that junie is a clown) and seeing junie win his first fight i have to guess that we will be seeing junie in a final. if this dude really does train with browning is there any way he wouldnt just say "i am in the final" i mean cmon.

i think junie looked really, really terrible last night. Striking was awful, against a guy who couldn't strike for ****.

If Junie has that much trouble with a no-striking all-grappling guy who is clearly one of the weakest in the house, he might just get destroyed in his next fight.

I have a couple tickets for UFC 90 that I'm selling for below face value if anyone is interested. (lower level)

cool. i suppose even if he did hint at it, you would be reluctant to post about it on some random forum. i cant see the junie of last night winning another fight. otoh he seemed well aware of that himself and you would think he would cut back the drinking and not be put in a spot where he has to lose two pounds so fast.

I dont know if it said this last night on the show because I was watching it in a bar , but in the very beginning of the fight he kicked roli and thought he broke his ankle. Said he couldnt really walk on his ankle and it was killing him the whole fight.

He went to hospital after the fight. It talks about it in Efrains(sp?) blog.

Today's video blog from Dana is worth watching, imo.

i definitely remember an awkward looking/sounding shin clash early in the fight, and although delgado is not a skilled striker, he is very tall for 155 and had a large reach advantage

i don't think junie's performance would have seemed that bad if he hadn't talked so much **** about finishing roli in the first round
10-23-2008 , 09:17 PM
Junie was awful. LOL at his Rocky Balboa impression, "Come on, hit me." Really wanted to see Del Gado pull it off, he just had really poor power.

Curious about the whole "ZOMG you got your BJJ blackbelt out of a cereal box" riff on Del Gado. My limited understanding was there is a strong tendency in BJJ to underpromote, because if a Brown Belt under Bigdaddydvo easily and consistently kicks the ass of a BJJ under MikeyPatriot, Mikey looks bad and his gym loses credibility. Am I underestimating the level of self-policing that BJJ instructors practice?

Here is the video of his blackbelt test:

For all the **** Junie talked he should have walked through that skinny guy. He didnt so i got little respect for Junie. The skinny guy looked like he had no power in his strikes and had his left hand down by his belly during a large chunk of that fight. If Junie was half as good as he thinks he should have punished the skinny kid.

Cant wait till Junies off the show. reps MMA in a horrible way. good for reality show.

no, he definitely looked like the better fighter of the two and i don't think it was close. thing is, he was fighting a punching bag with long arms and didn't adapt at all nor look impressive at any point. any UFC reg would have destroyed delgado.

i know an excuse can be made because he had to drop that weight, but cmon....if he cant stay in reasonable shape surrounded by people striving for the same goal as him does anybody reasonably believe he will be able to when/if he is making real money(which i seriously doubt will occur)?

i am looking forward to him and effrain fighting. junie seems the stronger of the two but effrain will have a game plan. i dont think it will be a great fight or anything but it will be good to see a fight between what appears to be raw skill and somebody who uses his brain to fight.

From what I know, it really varies from school to school/teacher to teacher. Cesar Gracie (who gave Nick Diaz his black belt), for instance, is notorious for being very very stringent with his promotions.

Didn't watch the whole thing, but if he got his belt from Gracie Barra then it's probably legit.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for bay area mma clubs. I'm in Palo Alto but I could drive somewhere up to 45 mins away.

I have some striking background but no ground game at all. A friend told me that I should learn pure bjj before I start training mma, but I don't know if that's true.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks

Yea, when I saw their kicks collide I couldn't believe nothing got broken. Btw, the complete lack of any power whatsoever from del gado's striking was absolutely amazing.

I train here Peninsula BJJ. It's in Foster City. I think the place is fantastic. The instructor is a third degree black belt and he teaches 95% of the classes. I guess at many academies the head instructor delegates most instructional duties to students who are purple or brown belts. The one possible draw back for you is this gym is gi only.

God the tall guy was bad, when you have Anderson ****ing Silva telling you to throw knees and elbow's, at least try it once or more in a whole round, he probably knows what he's talking about.
10-24-2008 , 01:27 PM
just got done with catching up on ufc 89... whole card was pretty bleh to be honest, bisping-leben was a fairly standard obvious decision. jardine-vera was close in that they were both terrible. taylor's fight was decent, and davis's finish was kind of walked into by kelly but think he was easily on top regardless. cane/soko was fun though.
10-24-2008 , 04:54 PM
Looking forward to the card tomorrow night. Haven't taken in a UFC card since 87 I think.

Would love for Cote to beat Silva, but would love to see Silva's domination continue. Such a dilemma.
