It's no surprise that he got caught not only in a more "exotic" submission, but a pretty "exotic" set up to that submission.
What does exotic mean here? It was a pretty standard kneebar and the setup was super simple. Brock just sat there and watched as Mir shrimped in and threw it on him lol.

Gotta be the most beeps per episode, huh?

In all the UFC's history, there have been 438 fights won by submission. Here are the number of fights won by submissions to the leg:

6 Kneebars
7 Achilles holds/locks
8 Heel Hooks

That's less than 5% of all submissions in the UFC.

Also; 4 kneebars, 4 heel hooks, and 2 Achilles holds/locks came before the Zuffa era. In roughly 10 years since the Fertitta's and Dana White took over, only 11 fights have ended by a submission to the leg.

Fair enough, although that number just seems ridiculous. What was so "exotic" about the setup to it? And don't tell me Frank Mir is the only person to butt scoot into a kneebar!

I think the LW division is so deep that this is potentially the smartest route to go. Rather then have a clear #1 contender, have multiple guys that nobody can really complain about.

It is similar to what they did in the WW division last year. The Swick/Kampman fight was for a title shot, when at the time Fitch/Alves/Koschek were all more highly regarded/ranked and the winner of Swick/Kampman wouldn't have beaten any them to get a title shot. Then it got really weird when that fight fell apart and then Hardy beat Swick to backdoor his way into a title shot.

I prefer to have clear #1 contenders, but it is easy to see why they do this from a business standpoint.

Nick Diaz is Broke and Will Do Anything for Money, Including Being “Nice”

If you believe Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, the glitz and glamor attached with being a professional mixed martial artist does not include a bankroll. According to the controversial slugger and habitual marijuana puffer, he’s dead broke and will do anything for some dough – including being “nice.”

“People need to understand that I don’t make a lot of money. For real,” Diaz told The Shoot. “I spent all my money on food. I don’t have any money. I spent it all on food. I didn’t buy anything.

“I worry about taxes and I watch my bank account just, WHOOSH, get sucked away. So I’m like, man, I just want to fight and get paid.”

I think it's a lot different than the WW title picture was because Fitch/Alves/Kos were all beaten by GSP already and Fitch/Alves were completely dominated, Alves in his previous fight and Kos was coming off a recent loss. The way the LW picture is setting up if Dunham had gotten the decision he deserved, and Soti beats Lauzon and Miller beats Oliviera (a lot of ifs) then is any 1 guy really more deserving than the other? I guess you can say Dunham and Soti beat the bigger names but Miller's wins would be just as impressive.

Daut to find you on Cain's jock for this fight irks me after you lobbied for the "BROCKTOBER" thread title this month. Why didn't you lobby for a "CAINTOBER" title? Pick a side ffs....

Anyway, I do hate Brock but I don't see him losing to Cain. If he does I will be very happy but more surprised than happy.

I am all for Brocktober as well! That said I am picking Cain to win. I don't even really hate Brock at all anymore, I kinda realized eventually that he was a dick to Mir...but later saw Mir deserved it all, and he seems pretty laid back and humble going in and coming out of the Carwin fight. That said, I think Cain is gonna shock alot of people in this fight, unless Brock can get him down quick and keep him down, or land some miracle right hand.

Caintober doesn't even make sense.

I have a hard time figuring out who to root for in this.
On one hand, i love the way Cain fights. Probably my 2nd favorite fighter stylistically. (BJ #1)
At the same time, I've stuck up for Brock and his potential against the ******ed haters for a long time now, and it would really make me happy to see them eat crow once again.

By all accounts Cain's cardio is incredible, so i guess it would be an advantage for him, but you never really know since neither guys has ever been in those rounds.

he looked pretty fresh i think. he had also been dropped twice which hurts your cardio and was putting on a pretty good pace. i am pretty confident cains cardio is amazing.

in brocks fight with randy he seemed to slow down a little. not so much of gassing as just lactor the acid monster catching up to him. im pretty sure that no matter how hard brock trains he'll eventually gas out in a decent paced fight due to his amount of muscles.

Interesting how the consensus in this thread compared to Sports Betting is always so different. SB seems to heavily favor Lesnar and Tito (to the point where people suggest Lesnar should be -300 or more, and that Tito should be a favorite).

People here seem to be split on the Lesnar-Velasquez fight (in discussion at least, poll says otherwise), and I think most of us favor Hamill over Tito.
