Have you treated the wood? The cedar is absorptive as are any cigars you have in there so you need to get them to the right humidity or they will just keep sucking up the moisture from the air. Wipe down the inner wood of your humidor with a damp sponge close the lid and let it dry then do it again. Put your cigars and humidifier in and leave it a few days and it should settle around 65-70%.

Easy road to successfully seasoning your humidor:

1. Barely wet a paper towel with some distilled water and wipe down the insides of the humidor. This will give it a bit of moisture to start but not enough to warp the wood. Also, cedar dust is carcinogenic, so wiping the humidor down to get rid of it is a good idea.

2. Put a sponge in a dish or tupperware container without the lid. Soak the sponge in distilled water. Place it in humidor and leave for 2-3 days.

3. Get your silica gel beads (from Heartfelt) or use silica gel kitty litter and put them into some sort of container. (I use an aquarium filter media bag, you can get these at Petco for $2.) Lightly spray it with distilled water until ~50% of the silica gel turns clear. This will keep your humidor at ~65%. Kitty litter is cheaper but you have to use a lot more of it.

4. Use the salt calibration technique to calibrate your hygrometer. When you do this, make sure that the salt is moist but there's no visible water on the surface. Digital hygro is preferred. If you only have an analog, mark where 65% "should" be.

5. If you still can't keep your humidor at 65%, try wrapping the entire humidor with saran wrap to seal off all leaks. If the humidity stabilizes, you probably have a leak somewhere. Other ways of testing this is doing the paper test and the flashlight test.

Little bump

Picked up a tin of the rocky patel sun grown juniors yesterday and the local shop. Wow these are amazing imo. Perfect smoke for me because I enjoy a smoke that doesnt take an hour and I am loving the sun grown rp. Would recomend to anyome who enjoys a medium to full bodied smoke in a short amount of time.

La Aurora Preferido Gold Tube. Had one this week, and I don't want to even think about smoking anything else. So good.

I like the way you think.

My favorite combo right now is Rocky Patel Edge Lite and coffee on my deck first thing in the morning, watching my dog spazz out on squirrel patrol.

I've been making my way through Don Pepin Garcia-blended cigars. Padilla Miami & Signature 32, DPG JJ & Blue Label, all very good to excellent cigars. It should be fun to circle back to the cigars I liked earlier to see if they hold up.

A slightly off topic question: Does a woman become more or less attractive if she occasionally enjoys cigars?

I've been enjoying these when I only have 5-10 minutes: $.50 each in bulk from JR

Recently bought a 10pack of Montecristo minis. My biggest problem is that I need to relight them now and then unless I rush through them. Maybe I'm just not used to the pace required.

Diesel unlimited = my new favorite. Gone through 10 so far and they get better every time. Anyone who enjoys a bold cigar with tons of flavor pick some of these up. I just ordered another box and it cant get here soon enough.

I really enjoy Diesel Unholy Cocktails. They are close to the top of the $3/cigar heap.

If she is attractive to begin with, yes. If she is a 300lb mammoth to begin with, puffing on a stogie has the opposite effect.

Smoked a Partagas No. 4 with a Macallan's cask strength after dinner last night.

Enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. Very smooth.

Hey, been smoking cigars for many years and just thought to do a search since I'm relaxing while smoking now.

Saw this and love almost all of Pepin' cigars.

I noticed you meantioned two of my very favorites, the Miami and Signature.
I was so bummed when Pepin stopped making these for Padilla; totally different cigar now.

I use to smoke a lot of Cuban' but I find the Nic blends to be so much better now. (My personal taste)

My favorites are Padron 1964 Exclusivo M, of course any of the Padron 26' and
well I'm pretty much a Padron whore!

Also love the Tatuaje, my favories is the SW but all of them are pretty good.

I could go on and on but was excited to post and see an active cigar thread.

P.S.
I subscribe to a lot of sites and see tons of specials each week, once I get an idea what ppl like I can post some and hope other' do the same.

Bumping this thread because now that I live with an apartment with a patio instead of a basement level studio I'm sure I will be grilling and having cigars far more often.

Is there a go to site I should be keeping an eye on for good sampler deals and things of that nature? I think I used to use Cigars International a few years ago but I don't know if there are better options now.

I've been on Holts Cigars email list for years and find quite a few good deals there. They send about 3 emails a week and about once a month I'll find something that I can't resist.

Very reputable company, some of their own brands are Ashton and La Aroma de Cuba and many more.

I still get emails from CI but I never seem to see anything I like.

I still use Cigars International. It seems like every catalog I get from them has a sampler on almost every page You should find a lot of options you like.

What cigars have you smoked in the past, that you enjoyed? How many do you want.

I would recommend something on the mild side like Ashton Cabinet, Davidoff, Cabiguan and Avo, they're all flavorful mild smokes. I'm assuming you live in the US so I'm not getting into any Cuban's. All these are highly respected names and will be appreciated if you're sharing at a party/event.

I appreciate the recommendations. As it turns out, I'm actually from Canada. Maybe you could recommend some Cubans too?

Great list above. The luci might kill you tho being that you're not a seasoned smoker, lol. (they're actually not nearly as strong as they use to be)

This is a good website for Cuban cigar reviews

http://www.cigars-review.org/

Hoyo's are a good mild cigar, you may want to start there.
