Think I'm leaning toward TPC and TNP.
With this I'm going to be looking at a Gorillaz vs. TNP fight, since live rap generally sucks and tokyo police club are great but clearly the weak link of these four.

I haven't seen Gorillaz live in a few years, so I have no idea what setup they're using these days, but when I saw them their live show was so ****ing cool, with the cartoon projections and everything, that there's no way I'd choose TNP over them. TNP will play super tight and super well, but in the end they're just an awesome band that will play a really good set, versus this whole super out there, can't-believe-it-works project that Albarn has produced.

In the end, you can't go wrong, good situation to be in.

Saw The National at the Riveria in Chicago last night (Sunday). Fantastic show.

Not sure if this is standard for their shows, but on the last song of the encore (Terrible Love), Matt Berninger walked through the entire crowd, back to the rear bar of the venue, singing the entire time. The lights came on as he was doing it. The energy was unbelievable. A very memorable concert experience, don't think I'll ever forget it.

gorillaz is probably more of a spectacle, but if you like new pornographers more, can't go wrong with that. youtube has your answer.

Phoenix did the same (can't remember lead singers name OTOH) during their Lolla after show. Ended up like half a foot from me during their second rendition of 1901. So sick.

Cool; thanks for the little breakdown. While I like them both, I'm more of a fan of TNP's music, but I'm still considering Gorillaz since I was thinking the overall show might be a can't miss experience. I wanted to limit myself to one because of the driving (4 hours to Camden; 6 hours to Baltimore) and expenses (travel costs, tickets, staying overnight). Maybe I'll just suck it up and do both.

If you can, I have a feeling it would definitely be worth it.

Seen Daft Punk. Mind blowingly amazing. Crowd made a big difference though. So happy, dancey and into it with each other.

Think I'm gonna go see Menomena in Montreal tonight. If anyone else is going, PM me.

saw pavement in central park, fedfan i think i might have been at the same show as you (weds?) ... great great set. they had a 15 or 20 minute delay mid set due to lightning. not much banter within the band but lots of energy.

somebody on another board mentioned that every song seemed a bit slowed down and i noticed the same thing, but i don't think it hurt the show. it may be that they were just playing at studio tempo and it feels slower because most bands speed up live.

weds show they played a couple tracks they hadn't played on tuesday, including "here" which i was very happy about. great show overall, highly recommend seeing them if they come your way.

so pretty much sufjan now has the album of the year, with only radiohead capable of beating it

Like the new Glasser album, although more from a background music perspective.

Both the Rivers Cuomo/BoB song and Weezer's "Memories" are just atrocious songs.

Saw Arcade Fire last night. They played at the Memorial Coliseum which is probably the building with the worst acoustics in Portland. It was my first time seeing them, but they still sounded pretty good. Their music really benefits from the extra energy and they put on an amazing show. I may get some LOLs for this, but I didn't realize how much switching up of instruments they do.

Calexico opened. I actually thought they were fantastic, but it's the kind of music I have to be in the mood for - an interesting mix of traditional Mexican music, old-school country and rock. Well worth checking out unless you hate trumpets or something.

How anyone ever liked George Michael's Careless Whisper is beyond me. Just awful.

Agreed. I think anything B.o.B.-related is terrible.

In a guilty pleasure admission, does anyone else think the La Roux song "Bulletproof" is surprisingly catchy and infectious?
10-02-2010 , 02:35 AM
yeah, its good...dont know why its a guilt pleasure though.
10-02-2010 , 06:12 AM
That is my favourite La Roux song as well, not particularly guilty about it either.

Got tickets for Gaslight Anthem in 3 weeks, can't believe it will be my first gig this year. Missing out on the big summer festivals was such a mistake.

I was going to second this but I do like End Love as a song, and the video is great as well imo. Here It Goes Again is terrible though.
