Motherboard is probably overly pricy, as you’ll never need SLI (running two GPUs at once) for those games.

Pretty crazy you can get that much of a gaming pc for $1350. There some combo discounts or sale going?
yeah like the 1070 is a free upgrade from the 1060 if you're buying it in a system. There are quite a few of those throughout that build.

i've been messing around and built an i5 8400 with the 1070 and it brought it down to 1180$

thanks for your help

Besides what Noodle said I would upgrade to 16gb RAM and ditch the watercooling.

EDIT: God damn RAM is expensive now. More than 2x the price from when I built my computer 18 months ago.

thanks. The water cooling is another weird included upgrade.

the DEEPCOOL Gammaxx GT CPU Cooler air cooling is the same price as the liquid cooling system listed.

simpler just to keep the air cooling system since i have no idea wtf im doing?

I will definitely look into the RAM.

I’d go water cooled for the reduced noise. You should basically never be messing with your CPU fan regardless, so just go watercooled and forget about it

WoW needs as much CPU power as you can get and 1070 is actually quite helpful for 1440p or even 1080p at max quality settings.

Any recent-generation i5 or i7 is going to handle WoW quite well. I have a GTX 960 and can play at 1920x1200 on max settings without any problems. Framerates aren't always > 60 but to me it looks fine. I think that the jump from the 900 series to the 1000 series is pretty significant so a 1060 would really handle those games well. Since your package includes a 1070, you might want to looks for some more graphics-intensive games!

Pretty sure my current monitor is about to **** the bed so I need a new one. Since I need a new monitor I figured I might as well upgrade from 1080p60 so I'm getting a new video card as well.

Ordered a GTX 1080 (lol video card prices, 1080 is only $70 more than a 1070).

Any recs for a monitor? Thinking 27", 2k, 144 refresh. Any reason to get something else?

I'm probably going to have a new monitor at the top of my Christmas list.

Thinking 27", 2k, 144 refresh. Any recs?

Because I didn't want to spend another $350 on a g-sync monitor.

You don't have to pay that much. This one is only $70 more if you want it now.

I paid $360 for my 27" 1440p 144hz GSync monitor, if you don't mind being patient. You could at least wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

I'm in Canada where that monitor is $850.

My options were 24", 1080p, 144hz, gsync or 27", 2k, 144hz, no gsync.

correct me if i'm wrong, but the AMD-based Freesync adds little to no cost to monitors while the proprietary GSync adds $50 or more typically, right?

More like $200. And yeah freesync adds $0. With an nvidia card it will just act as a normal monitor without an adaptive refresh rate.

in my mass ordering the other day, i ordered the wrong monitor ( 24" 75hz not 144hz) now to decide whether to send it back or just get a matching 144 version and use the 75 as a side monitor.

I went from double monitor to single monitor with the intention of getting a second monitor. But I've never bothered, as single monitor is working fine for me.

However, I'm running a 27" 1440p monitor, so your mileage may vary.

Now that I have 2 monitors it is tough going back to just 1. It's better for general productivity, and specifically for gaming I like to have the game on my main monitor and discord / etc on my side monitor.

I can't imagine ever going back to a single monitor.

I'm going through the yearly "I want to update the PC, despite not needing to" pains.

Sitting currently at i7 4790k(i think) and gtx 970. I run 2 monitors, they are either 21 or 24 1080p, 60hz refresh.

So, the only things left to do honestly is get better monitors to get to 120+ hz refresh, but there is no real reason to get those unless I lower my graphics enough to get over 100 fps consistently. With a 970, that's prolly Medium settings. Honestly don't know if I need 1440p or what GPU will handle it.

Need to check on my monitor sizes(forgot what I have, still original monitors when I originally built this pc back like 7 years ago) - but let's assume I am getting a 24 or 27" monitors with 120+hz refresh rates, what are some good monitors? Models are good, or brands to get/avoid.

Let's also assume that I want to get a new GPU to get better framerate - Looking for bang for my buck. I think I've decided that 1080ti is out of my budget being $800, but I think I am willing to spend $600-700. I think that puts me in the realm of a 1070ti or 1080. What's the better buy for the money?

I'm not sure which route I want to start off at. I came into a little unexpected money, and I might be able to do GPU and 1 monitor. Or maybe 1 gpu, or just both monitors.

I have 2 monitors at work and really enjoy them. I wouldn't be nearly as productive having just one.

At home I had to downgrade to just one monitor due to space concerns. I really miss having that second monitor to use for things like Discord (or Vent when I actually had a second monitor) and Chrome.

My dream is to one day have a home office that isn't the living room of a one bedroom apartment. Then I can add back that second monitor. In the meantime, I am looking to upgrade my 24" to a 27", preferably at 144 Hz. Not sure my 960 is going to do great above 1080p, but fortunately all it really has to do well is WoW. I can handle turning down the Witcher 3 settings.

I feel like the extra frames won’t be super useful in WoW

I'm not looking for any kind of competitive advantage. I'm looking for the "woah" feeling that validates spending that much money on a monitor.
