I'm just gonna assume all those parts are compatible and say it looks fine. No point dropping to 8gb as the price differences are small.

For video cards the more memory the better. 3gb isn't enough these days to max out a games settings.

The one change I would make is a small SSD for the operating system.

Yeah SSD obv, could drop down to 8gb of ram if needed. Prolly should just end up at 8 any way imo.

Also monitors?

And for the games you're going to play I would argue you could not see a difference between the 3gb 1060 and 6gb 1060.

def get ssd. i think 1060 6gb is best bang for the buck out of modern gpus so go for it.
you want to have 16gb ram for h1z1 and pubg to run well.

amd are going to release the r5 and r7 ryzen processors in 2 weeks so id consider waiting. they should out-perform the i5-6500 by a large margin and are in the same price range.

Are 1440p monitors the way to go now? I'm out of the loop.

I am looking to buy a new 27-30", mainly for poker and general use and maybe 10% gaming. Still have a 144hz 24" benq handy though.

Depends what you play and how seriously.

FPS: 144hz or the new 240hz.
Anything else: 1440p is nice. You can get 1440p/144hz but there is a big price premium.

Ultrawides are getting more popular as well, but not everything supports them properly. You can get 3440x1440p 144hz as well, but painful price wise.

4k - old stuff plays well at 4k, newer stuff you better be running a 1070 at minimum.

Gotta disagree on the 1060 6gb. The rx 480 8gb is similarly priced and out performs the 1060 in New titles using Dx12. It's going to be a better card in the long run.

I am incredibly happy with my 27in 1440p 144hz monitor. Changing it from 60hz to 144hz was like night and day difference on games like rocket League. 144hz is tough for most GPUs to push though. A lot of people running 144hz are still on 1080p. As said above, 1440p/144hz isn't cheap. You'll spend $600 minimum on one monitor

I reckon monitors last a LOT longer than GPUs or even CPUs, and are money well spent but maybe that's just me. Writing this now on a 1920x1200 Dell 24" from 2005 lol.

Funny enough I'm gonna get a couple of new monitors and have been researching the same thing. I'm going to get MG278q and PB277q fwiw.

On this note, my LG 27" from 2011 just died today.

RIP.

I was looking at the BenQ GW2765HT:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00M913DVG

Reviews seem great and it looks a decent price at £320. I don't game enough to really care for 144Hz (although I did just buy playerunknowns battleground a few mins ago).

The ASUS PB277Q you linked is similarly priced, any reason why you didn't go for the BenQ?

BenQ makes good stuff. When I type in that model number, in the US, it comes up on sale for $322 refurbished only. US amazon fwiw. So can't really say.

Reason I like Asus is, I have a tablet of theirs and a couple of their monitors currently and both have been great. Obv the 144HZ is for gaming and the others will be for browsing/poker/youtube/whatever else.

This is my second monitor primary before my 1440p 144hz one. I love it. The color is fantastic. Great monitor

I've heard bad things about Acer cpu units.. but I have always used their monitors and had good value experiences. I can see Acer 27" for as low as $140 on newegg.

General consensus on the PC forums seems to be that 1440p is the sweet spot at the moment. I've got a Dell 1440p, which is much better than my old 1080p for general usage. I can't really comment on gaming as my laptop isn't powerful enough to get a decent framerate at that resolution.

1440p on laptop with 1.25 scaling or 1.25 scaling on 30 inch monitor I think is the sweet spot now. You get the higher pixel density and sharper screen without having to scale too much.

$4400. I did get a $3 instant rebate on the DVD burner, though.
