Not that I really see myself playing much UHL, but how do you wind up with NHL players? Totally luckboxing them in card packs? I got a 2,500 and it was a bunch of ****-ass players with like one good training card, afaik my only NHL player is Steve Eminger and I got him in my initial card draw

Yeah, that was me. I'm 0-4 now, which isn't surprising since I've never played online before. My defense I feel is ok, but I can't score to save my life. Still working on methods to keep possession in the opposition's end without constantly being poke-checked.

Do you spend actual $$ on these or do you collect the in-game pucks? I get like 400 pucks per game I play, more for tournaments but it's sooooo boring grinding games against the CPU.

I just can't imagine how long it would take to grind out like 25,000 pucks to get to the point that my team doesn't suck so terribly.

Almost done grinding boost slots for my player so I should be on more during the week.

I feel like I've gotten a lot better at wrist shots from beating up on the cpu so much so hopefully it transfers to the 2p2 club when I get online.

Played a few more games of UHL online and jesus is the contracts system annoying. All I want to do is grind out 2,500 pucks so I can maybe have a chance of drawing a player that isn't a piece of crap scrub, but I'm constantly impeded by having to buy these ****ty 600 packs because my players are out of games on their contracts.

I mean, you're losing 20 contract-games per game you play, which means you need to be getting a 12-pack of new players and new contract cards (assume 10 games each on avg) every six games (more often when you consider random crap you get like jersey cards/consumables/etc). But you only get between 200 (bad loss) and 500 (solid win) pucks per game, so unless you're winning every game by a lot, you can't get 2,500 pucks to buy a new pack that often.

Cliffs: mode is mathematically rigged. Makes me wonder to what degree EA did so intentionally since obviously the mode is easy if you're fine with shelling out dollar bills like candy for the 12-packs. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting where some dickwad executive was yelling at the designers telling them to make the mode harder so people will have more incentive to pay for their card packs.

It's obvious it's a money grab. 2500 is hard enough to get, let alone the 7500 pack which gives better cards. To give even more incentive to buy, the ratio is pucks:gamerpoints is off. It costs $1 for the 2500 pack and $2 for the 7500 pack. The consumables pack (5000 pucks) also costs only $1.

also they needed something to make the mode challenging. if i ever NEED pucks i'll just play with some of my scrub players in offline tournaments

That's the problem. You end up burning contracts on 68 OVRs just so you can try and earn more pucks.

God, this game is such a piece of crap. Had a sweet 3-2 win over a UHL team with a bunch of NHLers (I have two NHL d-men that are rated like 78 and 81, rest of the team = scrubs incl a 62 rated goalie, sweeeeet), scored the winner in OT so I was like "oh sweet I can finally upload a clip longer than 2 seconds!!!!"

So, go to instant replay, set the markers, save the clip, it encodes for like 5 minutes, the window pops up to let me save the filename, and...

...it's like "you lost connection to the EA servers" (my game does this all the time, it's not my internet connection, it's always when the game stops to read crap off the hard drive or something) and insta-boots me out of the game. clip isn't saved. **** YOU **** YOU **** YOU

Mike, since the rest of us are obv struggling with UHL are you paying for your packs with $$ or did you find the secret way to beating it without spending money?

Not hating if that's what you did, just curious if it's at all possible to be good at this mode without spending money or if it's a waste of time to try

i spent 800 points on packs and havent really looked back, prob got super lucky with pack draws but thats about it.

just bought a cam fowler from the marketplace for 3550, whoever priced it that low is an idiot

i don't mind it being very hard to build a good team, but what they should do is charge like $20 for the good packs so that fewer people buy good teams. i bet it nets them more overall. i mean, seriously, who would ever want to pay money to beat a video game anyway?
