So which FTB mod should I start out with.
LOL had this exact same experience. Hated the whole jetpack thing and all the energy stuff just seems incredibly weird

I use mindcrack.

Everything seems weird when it is such a big change to what you already know. That being said if you enjoy building machines and the technical side of minecraft then FTB is amazing. If you just want to build pretty houses then it's probably not for you. You'll be spending a lot of time watching videos, reading wiki's etc... There is a mountain of information necessary.

All that being said I could never play vanilla minecraft again. I just completed my fusion reactor and got it operational last night. Pretty stoked.

I never even understood redstone... I've gone completely off MC and would love something to re-kindle the interest, but I just can't see tekkit/FTB or similar doing it - I briefely installed FTB, went 'yeah.... no' and haven't looked at MC since

Docm77 is the most child appropriate imo. He has a few videos with other people swearing and he puts in a warning at the beginning of them

Etho goes one further and actually edits out when others are swearing. But I agree that Docm77 is also child appropriate.

I understand the concern. I always thought Etho was the most subscribed Minecraft guy. But then I found out that SkydoesMinecraft actually has twice as many subs. So I watched one of his vids and he's swearing all the time. I don't mind it, but my daughter watches Youtubers also and I really don't want her watching that.

Agree, Etho and Docm77 are family friendly. Although a lot of their builds are probably too technical for younger kids to understand. Paulsoaresjr is another family friendly youtuber. I believe he even did a let's play series with his son at one point.

Yeah, you're right about Docm77 and Etho making really crazily technical builds. But that's the fun of them. I actually stopped watching Paulsoaresjr because he's not nearly technical enough. But he is a good person for kids to watch because he doesn't do these insane witch farm/iron golem farm type builds.

Lol, I forgot how weak you are when you start the game. In a new world, and I've burned in lava twice in ten minutes, just trying to branch mine. In my old world, lava is nothing, because I have enchanted armor and fire protection potions. Don't have that here. So everything burned up.

I found a skeleton spawn box underground. I read somewhere you can make a trap.

Does anyone have a link of a trap I can build that is easy?

So bummed that I can't get FTB to work since they updated today. So I went back to vanilla and updated to 1.5. Went to the nether and picked up some quartz, then built a stream + hopper setup to automatically put my farm drops into a chest. These are things I was actually looking forward to doing before I was exposed to FTB. Now it's just really anti-climactic after seeing what FTB is capable of doing.

One thing that's disappointing about FTB is the quality, or lack thereof, of tutorials on youtube. Two Minecraft youtubers I like are Docm77 and xisumavoid. They are both very knowledgeable about many aspects of Minecraft, especially redstone. So I wanted to add some power to my IC2 machines and I checked their videos about IC2 power out. They didn't know anything about it! It was frustrating watching these videos because they're making huge mistakes that even I, a person who's played a total of 3 days, realizes are mistakes. But it takes them a ton of time to notice it.

The wikis are very hit and miss. First problem is that there are a ton of them. At least 3 general FTB wikis, plus additional wikis for many mods. But while some entries are really good, others are really bare bones.

I've found the forums to be the best place to find info, as well as farting around until it works.

Docm77 and xisumavoid just simply are not very good at FTB. There are plenty of solid tutorials on youtube by many various people. Give some other people a chance
