Yes they have, and yes it is.

All the ranting about V4...I just don't get it. Sure there are some annoying features (and with the caveat that I don't play multiplayer e.g.), but they fixed a bunch last week and I expect most of the more irritating stuff will be gone within a few months. Which will mean it'll be >>>> V3 already and with a way brighter future. It's still not a great client but comparing the complexity of an MTG client with Hearthstone is really comparing apples to oranges.

I mean you can't really even trade on v4. Ever tried having 1000 items up for trade and then wanting to make one of them untradeble? Good luck with that.

the first few weeks where all the bots would freeze on all trades was greaaaaaaaaaaat

I dont hate v4 now but really dislike the visual changes and some of the trading/collection weirdness

They need an auction house types system. Especially considering how much trading we are going to need to do to keep up with the new 18 month cycle. Classifieds are terrible.

Anssi,
yes the trading is pretty bad. I would be surprised if the worst parts aren't fixed fairly soon.

imo the visual changes are generally better in the lobby and play area except for silly stuff like the big trigger windows (which are easily fixed).

Auction house would be awesome and has been proposed for years. It's been speculated before that WOTC might lose money going down that route though since people will have an easier way to get rid of unwanted cards. On the flip side more people might actually play so I don't buy that argument at first sight at least.

how is mtg client more complex than hearthstone one? yes you have trading but if you think blizzard can't do a good trading system then just lol.

if its cause mtg is a much more complex game then sure that exuses some bugs in the cards but not how counter intuitive the settings are nor the ridiculous amount of windows you now have.

Point is wizards squandered their product. How many people play mtgo, like 1k at any one time? and its not cause magic is a bad game

Maybe they should have fixed their new release in the 18 months it was in beta testing before forcing it on the customers.

I played 1 draft on v4, crashing 4-5x in the 3 rds of play. Then I tried to trade some stuff away, found out it was essentially impossible and haven't opened it since, because why would I. I still watch streamers and every one of them is restarting the client multiple times per event to deal with the lag and avoid crashes. Its been on v4 only for how long now and they haven't even fixed simple things like displaying the correct winner of the final game of matches in the popup.

So many top magic players are streaming HS much more than MTG these days and there are very good reasons for it.

bitchi,
there aren't a lot of excuses for some of the more ridiculous things with the client. Personally I far prefer separate windows for games and the main client since I play with two monitors and keep the lobby on one screen and matches on the other (alt-tabbing between matches is a huuuuge plus from v3). So yeah, a lot of the front-end stuff is fairly inexcusable, but ultimately fixable.

benza,
obviously you're making stuff up since I watch enough streams to see that multiple restarts aren't common. Lag can be heavy if you're streaming, the game state gets complex with a lot of permanents and you're on a bad PC. Sounds like you've been very unlucky with your experience, I have yet to experience a crash on V4.

In case it's not bleedingly obvious, I'm not extolling the virtues of the MTGO client - it's a bad client. Saying it's so much worse than V3 is just blatantly wrong. See e.g. the puremtgo.com guy writing the state of the program articles, who hasn't exactly been a V4 champion.

I watch Numot several days a week and he is constantly restarting. havent watched anyone else much the last couple weeks but Noah Sandler was also restarting at least once a draft last time I was watching him regularly.

I dont have more of a sample cuz a lot of the guys I used to watch dont really stream anymore.

"making stuff up" was a bit harsh, sorry about that. Let's put it this way: the memory leakage (and usage in general) is definitely one of the worst issues and prob the worst one with MTGO and not as easily fixable as some of the superficial GUI issues. Just woke up, my client's been on overnight, current RAM usage in idle mode: 1.8 GB. Restart: 600 MB. Yeah, that's not a good look WOTC....

MTG was one of my favorite games. Wish I could afford to play competitively.

Until then, I have storm and KCI ready for when the opportunity arises.

Hey guys, I only started playing MTG in theros, and booster draft is my favorite format. Anyone who played in Alara/RTR see any similarities to how they expect KTK drafts will go in respect to multi-colored decks + fixing, speed, etc.?

I'd suggest looking up Modogrinder1's vods on twitch. Has a great overview of the set in relation to that.

Depends on the value of your collection.

I would put any card 10+ tickets in the classifieds or 20+ depending on your balla status.

I would list all your rares and sell to goatbots before mtgotraders.

Anyone know how the new block structure is going to affect block constructed. I couldn't find it any where on wizards site.

It is treated as normal block (3 sets). From next fall I'd imagine block constructed will be 2 or 4 sets, but Khans is still 3.

Is everyone starting to slowly end up doing 5-colour drafts in Khan? Someone let me know when there's room in the meta for weenies.

I put together a pretty good 4 color. Seems like when your main colors dry up you can start grabbing lands for 4th color. Haven't hit five yet seems excessive.

Latest limited resources podcast has numot the nummy discussing 5-color. Haven't listened to it though

GP Stockholm, Day 1 8-1, Day 2 1-5

Played Mardu midrange (basically Brad Nelson list from GP LA top 8 -3 Rocs, -1 Lightning Strike, -1 Seeker, -1 Sorin,+1 Stormbreath, +2 Sarkhan, +2 Magma Jet + 1 Read the Bones.

Basically the deck is really good vs monoR/other super-aggressive decks, slight favorite against other midrange deck (Abzan, Jeskai) and huge dog to UB and Sidisi Whip. I wouldn't play it right now in mtgo since I expect Whip decks to be popular for a while, but I think after a while it will be good choice for mtgo metagame since people like to play monoR aggro since it is so cheap to build.

Anssi,

according to http://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/standard#online, sidsi whip is a pretty marginal part of the metagame. With abzan midrange, jeskai and monored compromising 40% of the metagame, it should be a fairly solid choice no?

Also noticed that Melissa DeTora says that monored isn't a particularly good match up (http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=12165).

Magic looking pretty fun again, any recommendations to get back in? I was looking at the GRB aggro deck but GWB seems pretty strong atm along with WUR tempo but I do see some potential for control; feels like meta getting away from super aggro to midrange
