Numot the Nummy is a pretty solid limited player who streams. He made a functional though obviously not good storm deck last night.
Glad to see someone else is on the Numotthenummy train. I haven't watched a ton of his stuff, but he seems quite solid.

This is why I need tix before cube disappears. Pretty sad that they are giving such a worthless payout. There should at least be an option to enter the cube for 3 of whatever useless packs they are giving away. It's pretty awful that winning an 8-4 is only breakeven.

Yeah, not gonna play anymore. They need to have alternate pack entry.

Is it profitable to take my ols packs and 4-3-2-2?

You are not going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Considering it's 3 packs and 2 tix to enter, you can never make a profit when the max payout is 4 packs. There aren't even many chase rares; mostly just the fetches. Interestingly they haven't really dropped in price over the course of the OLS drafts.

Nothing else worth money? Not even angel? That's why u should be able to money draft online. The rare times I go to my local store I make it
Very clear if I'm drafting it's for money. I refuse to win a draft and lose money

Don't laugh at me if this is a dumb question please:

P2P2 in cube: Karn Liberated or Control Magic

Deck is looking mono-blueish with Upheaval, Glen Elendra Archmage, Man-o-War, Miscalc, Force spike, Wurmcoil Engine, All Is Dust.

Oblivion Ring and Kodama's Reach are the only other spells...

Last edited by WalterS; 07-16-2012 at 01:25 AM. Reason: the more I think about it the more it seems Karn is the pick...

Then don't draft OLS online. The most valuable card in the block is is Windswept Heath around 7 tix, and there are only around 7 cards in the whole block that are worth 3+ tix. I'm not even sure which angel you mean, but Akroma is less than 1 tix.

All based on Supernova prices (http://www.supernovabots.com/prices_0.txt) which aren't always accurate for old sets, but seem reasonable here based on their stock/my very limited research into the classifieds.

Since OLS draft sets are worth 3-4 tix and you get one set plus a pack for winning you lose ~1 tix for first place unless you rare draft something nice, which there is not a lot of opportunity to do.

I recommend making a suggestion/complaint to Wizards about this boondoggle.

I think that's a pretty close pick. Control Magic gets better the better its targets are and the fewer the answers are. Cube is pretty ideal for that. That said, take Karn. Good planeswalkers demand a huge resource commitment from your opponent to fight and they often create a subgame that your opponent has to win before he can go back to trying to playing the main game.

I've lodged a complaint/feedback with the person in charge of these things; I know him (more like "them") personally.

It's a tough thing to solve. They're never done something like this on MTGO at this scale. It ****s up the economy pretty bad as evidenced in the first go-around when they used current set packs (which is not something they can do in the future; it tanked the normal draft queue economy).

Alternate pack entry would be one way to do it for sure.

Well they did the same thing few months ago. (Didn't cube pay some other old set back then?)

cube paid avr, then time spiral, then ols

I agree payouts are silly, but solving it is a tough proposition

AVR tanked the economy, TPF had a floor so it never crashed like OLS, and the current experiment sucks nuts. It's hard to crack, but even doing alternate pack entry would be a huge boon.

AVR packs were still selling for 3.0 during cube and back up to 3.7ish a week later. Seems much better than the alternative.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Give cube drafts and don't be stingy.

The "cube packs" or whatever you want to call them will have decent value given the popularity and if you don't want them then you can actually sell them.

Also, if they charged 2 or 3 tickets the prizes could be completely ****ty and it wouldn't really matter. The problem is the cost of the drafts is quickly approaching 7 tickets.

Downloaded and started mucking around yesterday. Went 8-0 to start with some decklists I found that used the gold-bordered cards. Then ran into some stuff i couldn't deal with and lost a few. Highlight was being down to one health, playing the card that let me have an extra turn, and dealing 20 damage on the two turns.

Wasted a few scammer's time, offered to trade with me so I let them spend time compiling "fair" trades and then told them to gtfo. There's a **** ton of people trawling the noob area for scams.

Not sure where i'll go from here though, the trading interface sucks balls. Will have to find a few more beginner's resources.

The DKA/ISD payouts did suppress the price of packs, but I don't understand why Wizards disliked that so much. Prices didn't get so low that it was economical to open the packs for singles, and I assume it only increased the amount people drafted the most recent block for a week or two after Cube.

Each Cube draft takes in 48 tix for Wizards and pays out 11-12 packs. So even paying out the current format I don't see why that's a problem - it's effectively selling current set packs for 4 tix each, which is what they cost in the official store. What does tanking the draft queue mean? Why is it bad? I honestly don't understand.

I thought TPF payouts were bad, but at least a draft set was worth around 5 tix. I think it would be nice if there was a way to assure that 4 packs is worth at least enough to draft again, which similar to how the other draft formats pay out. I think even the value of TPF was too low, but I am guessing the popularity and newness of Cube meant people were willing to pay a very steep rake. I know I was.

Two things that would help the value of the payouts are making the flashback format into Nix Tix and adding alternate pack entry to the Cube. Cube specific packs sound ok, but I am guessing Wizards doesn't want to mess around with unopenable/phantom packs. I can only imagine the deluge of emails they'd get from people. Have you seen some of the questions people ask ORCs?

Is there anything else they can do besides choosing a format where the packs are already worth a lot like MVW? That would actually be really sweet and I would use my packs instead of selling them, but I'm not sure that would happen either.

Not only do they need to fix the problem for the future, but they need to either compensate everyone or give us something useful to do with our OLS packs(cube for example).

Yes, making the draft format nix tix would certainly help. I'd have drafted OLS at least once if it were nix tix, but I'm not going to pay 2 tickets to get more worthless prizes.

I'm guessing getting phantom packs that have value and can be sold wouldn't get them as many complaints as giving OLS packs that are quickly approaching no value.

None of this is the real issue. The 7 ticket entry is outrageous.
