No worries, they'll just start a kickstarter for another game and get a $million+ despite only having a couple pieces of concept art.

So what happens if they run out of money and/or don't produce the game, or it turns out like a rushed steaming dump? Do they just walk with the cash?

Brb, starting half a dozen Kickstarters.

Sounds like from the Kickstarter, they thought this would be another project about the size and complexity of The Cave or Costume Quest, which they've shown they can handle pretty well, but once the money came poring in they decided to focus a lot more internal resources on it. If you look at their other big budget games, both have been a bit of a mess in terms of funding and publishing. Psychonauts got shopped around a few times between MS, THQ and Majesco and Brutal Legend with that Activision/EA mess. So this is their first real attempt at self-funding a big budget game with no publisher to look to for deadlines and money, and when they've had those experiences they might not have been the best ones to learn from.

But it's Tim Schafer. Aside from Brutal Legend, everything he touches is golden. Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts. If the man needs two million more dollars you give it to him.

This is on sale now for $3.74. I've waited a while to get this cheap!

Not saying don't pick it up, but by all accounts it's one of their weakest games. Maybe hold off until another Double Fine bundle during the summer sale, I'm sure you'll be able to pick up their real gems for cheap if you haven't played them. Psychonauts, Costume Quest and Stacking are my favs, the first being one of the best games ever made. Also you won't have to use the lame GMG launcher.

Looks like I'm gonna have to wait, it's giving me hassle in the checkout. Oh well it is probably better to wait for a bundle. Iirc, they had a bundle a few months ago so it might be a while.

Posted this in the Rogue Legacy thread already, but if anyone wants to swap a Rogue Legacy steam key for a Don't Starve key I have, let me know.

If they don't deliver, kickstarter lays the grounds to sue due to the contract they sign before kickstarting.

If it's a steaming pile, you got ****ed and can't do anything.

Also good luck getting a few milions from a kickstarter.

Problem is if they spend the money and don't deliver there isn't gonna be any money to sue to get.

Crossposting from the Civ5 thread but this is just so amazing that I am just in awe. There are people with important jobs in the video game industry that made this happen. I don't even understand... How do people survive to adulthood and never acquire any intelligence? Is there going to be a single poster in this thread who reads the following and nods their head saying "yep that was a good idea"?

So they released a multiplayer Pitboss mode yesterday for Civ 5. Basically this is a hotseat game where players can play their turns at their convenience instead of playing a whole game in one sitting. Games takes weeks/months depending on how big they are because of turn based nature of the game. Imagine playing Chess over the internet via email. It's like that.

The amazing thing about this update: the host has to act as the server. This means that the host of the game can't play Civ 5 in any other capacity until the game is over. week/months. In fact, if the host has Civ 5 on Steam, he or she can't play any other game on steam for the duration!

Mind blowing.

It's a little unclear to non-Civers how this means you can't play any steam games at all.
