Nah man, that **** is bad ass. I'm totally going to do low fly-bys over my allies (and probably 99% of the time crash into them and get cussed out, but god damnit when it works it'll be cool).

You're doing it wrong. You rush to the jet and then either:

1. Park a jeep in front of it or a tank close enough that the wings get clipped when they try to take off

2. Take it yourself, fly off and then eject so the plane crashes into your own team (infantry, tank, whatever)

This way you aren't in the vehicles when the TK goes down, no penalty but plenty of frustration.

Good times. I also would toss C4 on the front of choppers, find an enemy tank to nosedive into and bail at the last second. When it worked, it was beautiful.

I generally only grief if one of the following conditions apply:

1. The other team is obviously team stacking because it's their server, and there's little hope that any randomly generated team trying to fight their coordination is doomed to absolute failure

2. My team blows goats and I don't have the patience to carry n00bs

#2 is generally because I play a map to actually win the map, not rack up personal kills.

Back when I played BF2 I loved being squad leader because I knew the ebb and flow of most maps, and could anticipate which areas would be undefended and position myself as a mobile spawn point behind enemy lines in the right area to catch them with their pants down

How do i check what graphics card etc i have in my pc to see if it will run BF3? I think i have a quadcore something or other so should be fine but i will just pick up the console version if theres not gonna be a big difference between the two.

What make/model of PC do you have? That might help you determine. You could also go to your control panel and check hardware devices to see what display adapter is shown.

Also, I would expect the difference between console and PC to be pretty big if you have a capable PC

A GTX 470 should be plenty powerful enough to play BF3

They say that they also have info on the number of maps - wish they'd disclosed that.

pre-ordered, first time I've ever pre-ordered a game. Nothing to add, but damn I'm excited. I've also started playing some BC2 lately as I picked it up on Steam sale and it's very fun. I hope this blows it out the water.

Does anyone know if origin does pre-loading on pre-orders? I'm assuming yes.

I think I'm in the same boat here, don't remember pre-ordering before, never usually bother.

Yes it does, you will be able to play as soon as the servers go live.

I see what your thinking, lets say we have 440, you figure I'll spend 115 on cpu and 330 on graphics card and get better fps, but actually if you spend 220 on a quad core and 220 on a graphics card you will get better fps.
The 2500k can be over clocked up to 5ghz and offers the best price/performance, however you can pick up the quad core 2300 for $185 if you want the cheapest option and aren't going to over clock:

After some consideration I'm leaning towards a non-overclocked (i.e. non-K version) core i5 for around $189 with the 1333mhz ram instead of 1600.

With AMD on the precipice to launch bulldozer in mid-september, should I expect Intel price drops around that time? I can wait to build this thing another month or so

If you can wait definitely wait imo, things do get cheaper, can't see prices dropping because of bulldozer, they will drop though when intel releases newer models which isn't that far off.
Also the new amd gfx cards should be here by about oct/nov.
You should think again about the k model, first of all it's not much more expensive, second you literally just change a multipler to oc, so it ain't hard, hell most boards even do auto oc.
A $30 cooler like the hyper 212 will get you too 4.5ghz without problems.

As for ram, defo get the 1600, I dunno where u live but most places it costs the same as 1333 atm, ram has never been cheaper, get 8gb, you will need it.
I'm using over 4gb right now and I have all super and prefetch turned off, just some apps running no games, although with no apps running and bf3, it won't use more than 4gb but you will use 4 and doesn't take much effort to use more.

Didn't Intel just release their new chips in ~Feb?

Or did it get pushed back a bit? Or am I just remembering things wrong?

I think it was the 6th of Jan, I ordered mine on the 12th or so. I've read reports about some new updated chips for sandybridge, possibly in October before bf3 gets released also ivy bridge is set for release in about 6-8 months
