The runner had even met the horrible fmv actor, mike butters. Too fun

I love how the guy went from 400 followers to 3200 followers

Sad I'm missing the good runs of SGDQ yesterday and today. Will check out Mario Maker and Mario RPG when I get back in a couple weeks.

Kind of sad I never played the Castlevania franchise when I was younger. Seems like a fun franchise to watch runs for but I just never got into it.

Thats one of the reasons I like the FF9 run so much. Fkn deathguise just crushes people right at the end

Isn't the FF9 deathguise run-killer simply due to him casting meteor, which is 100% RNG? My understanding of the late-game Super Metroid speedruns is that the late-game techs/tricks are really difficult skill-wise and require a lot practice to pull off (instead of being due to RNG, though I'm sure there indeed exists some randomness).

I think SMW2 is probably my favorite game to watch be speed run. There's just so much going on at all times and the technicality of some of the tricks is insanely impressive. Plus the fact that in 100% because of the 30 star requirement, boss fights can become legit sweats on occasion.

They submitted it, but were denied since it was in two GDQ's in a row or something, and replaced it with a mystery game tournament...+1 to GDQ's being pretty sucky these days

Interesting that the Super Metroid race is a 100% run...either folks wanted a nice change of pace and/or there were too many deaths from previous any% runs. Definitely less exciting of a run since there's basically 0% chance of dying.

But yea, +1 to missing the glory days of GDQs.

EDIT: I'm looking at the rest of the list and I see that Zelda LttP is "no major glitches"...reminds me of two gifs someone posted a while ago that made me chuckle.

Yeah I mean at this point everybody's seen the fun games to be Speedrun. A lot of the games are either boring to watch or have been seen 100s of times over. I'd love to see a live Speedrunning tournament with a prize pool for the fun games with competitive player pools.

For me, a big part of the awesomeness of GDQs was the atmosphere. A bunch of excited people in a room just hanging out and enjoying video games. Now it's more of a production. Room is huge, less excitement from the group comes through, etc. I don't think it's a coincidence that one of the best runs the last two years was the mario maker race where the room was packed, interactive, and super excited.

I mean I'm still turning in now and again and will be sure to hit the vods of some of them. But just ain't the same to me.
