8 hours for FF7 still seems too short, but then again, I've never actually played it through to completion. My most recent attempt had almost 25 hours on it, I think.

I can't imagine this would be a fun one to spectate. So many hours worth of unskippable cutscenes.

Yeah they're doing it in the middle of the night.

If I could play FF7 on PC with a mod to allow me to skip materia animations, I would add it back toward the top of the "I bought this, and should probably beat it" list.

It's hosted in the US and will probably see most of its donations from US sources. When the first Japanese GDQ starts, maybe we can compare schedules and game genres to see where they stick the ones that aren't very spectator friendly, okay?

I don't doubt that for AGDQ (though I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't the case there either) as that's a charity that only benefits the US, but SGDQ actually has global appeal.

Yeah FF7 has to be boring as hell to speedrun.

Gotta be at least one hour of the 8 hours' worth is cutscenes. I guess at least it gives you some bathroom breaks

I actually find the FF7 speedrun fairly interesting, but a good bit of it is nostalgia and just having something on in the background - and it probably needs a semi-interesting streamer to run it too, more than many other games.

each game has a community that includes programmers and all other kinds of computer nerds

so there are for example people who write romhacks and know super nintendo assembly

others use hex editors and other programs that track state variables and see what changes under what circumstances

this is how moonfall was recently discovered in super metroid

I think most glitches are discovered randomly though and then if they're useful people try to figure out what causes them

AGDQ has always made more money because it's the original and people (even international people) are dumb and think they're donating for something useful like cancer research.
