Anyone playing this yet? If so, can you compare it to some of the other MMOs on the market that you've played?

i played the closed beta quite a bit, and am going to jump in headfirst when it releases.

i haven't seriously played an MMO in more than ten years, but these are the comparisons i'm hearing:

more challenging then WoW due to death penalty and less solo'ing potential, so PvE is more everquest-like than most recent MMOs

PvP combat system is similar to vanilla WoW

more of a PvP oriented endgame than WoW; the PvE is shallower than WoW/EQ

I didn't get anything leveled that high in beta but people in my guild like it alot so far. We all played Warhammer and quit cuz it died and was just so easy to set up an AOE bomb group and roll through people. My good buddy leveled an assassin up to almost 30 during closed beta and he thinks it's gonna be pretty damn fun pvp wise. Open beta starts this Sunday I believe.

korean games are grindfests...i remember lineage 2 where the max level was 75 or so and it took FOREVER for the first person to get 75 and they grinded 24/7. If anyone is going to play this we should play on the same server and make a clan/guild whatever.

NCSoft makes the best MMOs, I'm sure Aion will be sick. I hope I don't end up playing it though.

This is true...I invested a ton of time on Lineage 2, but I will not complain because I made a ton of money running bot trains before they were used by non-chinese farmers.. I probably made 3 grand/month just letting 3 bot trains run powerleveling people/selling adena. Good times. I hope Aion is similar so I can run more bot trains now that I have more money to buy accounts lol

I made a promise to myself to never ever ever play another NC Soft game again.

I regrettably admit that I played Lineage 2, but the game was such a grind that I wound up spending about $500 on ebay for the in-game currency, and eventually got banned because I wrote myself an couple AC Tool scripts to level with. One script was a soloing one, and I had another that would actually fully function in a group where people would just camp a dungeon room. It was actually quite amazing given the fact that it was done with AC Tool, and that I'm not a programmer.

But yeah, NC Soft makes the worst grinds in the gaming industry. If you want to play for 8 hours a day every day for 5 months just to hit max level, then NC Soft games are for you. They're not for me.

Can someone pls try and get some spare keys for the 2+2 members

Well the betas were the Korean version 1.1 and 1.2 or 1.3 I believe and when it goes live we will be on the 1.5 version and I guess the grind is toned down a bunch and my guildmates were all like 25-30 in closed beta so it couldn't have been too bad. I hate levelin' tho.

This game isn't remotely close in terms of grinding as either of the Lineage's, at least so far as PvE goes. You can level via PvP if you like, although your return on invested time may vary.

Leveling via crafting would take a long time, a loooong time.

I just purchased the game, and apparently there is an open beta from the 6th -> 13th.

Will probably level the rogue or huntard type character in beta, and then level a caster once the game comes out.

I'm totally burnt out on WoW, my guild sucks, my server sucks, and the game is pretty much boring as hell.

The flying mechanic in the game seems like a pretty awesome idea, I hope it isnt broken all to hell.

Does open beta require you to purchase FilePlanet thing to get a key? They always make me do that **** and I don't want to spend $5 on it when I'm going to use it just for one thing, although if its the only way to play open beta....w.e

ok so I'm downloading hte open beta.

am I to assume based on the last few posts that I actually won't be able to play it?

I had a look online and found a site selling "open beta keys" for $4.99US.

If I can't get one for free, I'm actually considering paying 5 bucks to play it for a week. My logic is that I'd rather get a feel for the game now, rather than pay 50 or 60 bucks for the full version and then quit after a month.

Thoughts?
