So I am guessing that you Uri Peleg fans are going to be spending 1k or whatever on his new Upswing course this week. I have been avoiding his content because he charges so much for so few hours of content and I don't remember liking his RIO videos when I had an elite membership, but you guys still seem to be fans. What makes his content so desirable?

I like his take on the game and how he explains things. But I'm not spending 1k on a course that I don't believe is necessary for me to beat my current stakes.

Maybe when I get to 200nl

You can watch yt videos for free. Uri seems to me like poker genius. He is very intelligent, can explain concepts very well and has better understanding of NL then any other coach and probably better then most of HS pros.

idk about an upswing course - I imagine it's gonna be a bit dumbed down and polished by the upswing crew to market it.

But his previous 2 courses are fantastic. There's no need to convince anyone because it simply speaks for itself

Cool, thanks for the thoughts guys. I am semi-considering getting the course if the price isn't totally insane. It sounds like Uri's playing style could address some of my weaknesses such as my horrendous red line. It's worth 500-1k if it boosts me from 50 to 200 Zone. And I think I am already close as it is.

Wow 1k?!

I'm sure the content is amazing etc but wow wtf?! I wished i was at a point in my journey where spending 1k to improve is feasible.. But til then its RIO and YouTube ftw lol

Well it's like 2-5 bins for thóse who can use that info and if it's good it pays back quickly.

If it increases my 200NL winrate by 0.5 bb/100 it'll pay for itself after 100K hands. Probably worth it, and I'm hoping I get more than that as a winrate boost. He does seem to teach things that seem a bit outside the box of how even the good players are playing these days, so that has me a bit nervous, but I'll try my best to implement these concepts.

The course is almost certainly going to be 1k. All the upswing courses debut at that. His early stuff is high quality.

I was very impressed by Uri's red line course, even though it was not very much content. I think he provides great examples of really effective ways to use solvers beyond justifying your hero call from last session or trying to find the perfect flop c-bet size

Fwiw, you get a free side course called "Red Line Rocketship" if you purchase his new Upswing course within the next 3 days. Afterwards, it will cost another $500. Looking at the table of contents, "Red Line Rocketship" appears to be both his red line course that is so well-reviewed along with his check-raise course. They seem to be the exact same courses that he sells on his site. So that definitely adds major value to the purchase.

Also, it looks like the course includes very detailed pre-flop charts for sizings such as 3x, 2.2x, and 3.5x that aren't easy to come by for cheap. So ya, I am interested lol.

I take the piss but I have been enjoying his free stuff for a while. Alvin vouches for him as a great player. Also enjoyed his recent chat with Brokos on Thinking Poker Podcast.

My main hesitation (if I had a spare k) would be that Upswing have a history of authorising/overpricing underwhleming content. When I was a memeber 2/3 yrs ago 90% of their standard catalogue was still meh compared to good instructors and then there was that Edu-poker debacle I heard about. I know they took Riske on recently tho and everyone raves about that red line course so def could be gud

I would stay away from Alvin. He has no real tangible results and most of his youtube videos are very basic solver stuff. His 700$ course is also overpriced + known to be quite generic.

Yeah, I went in with my eyes open.

He does seem to play high stakes regularly and has posted 100k+ graphs crushing micros. But the OM style is really a framework of how to use solvers to exploit, and that was I what I wanted out of it. I still haven't learnt it all yet or put in any significant volume so i can't vouch as to it's overall effectivness either way but I still like the idea of building a game around high EV pressure points

To be fair a lot of his 'simplifications' have since been co-opted by other training sites like Zenith and REd Chip.

He supposedly plays high stakes live - where? No one can attest to this besides some of the stream games he's played. Yes he beats micros - but this doesn't qualify you to sell a 700$ course.

It is. I understand you spent money and it so it's hard to come to terms with it - but I have looked through this course and there's simply not 700$ of unique and useful information. This stuff is just how to use solvers 101, nothing special. Not just my amateur opinion, but other people I talk to.

I really recommend against Alvin, I think he's similar to a finance "guru" selling expensive courses. I haven't really met anyone at the mid/high stakes who uses his stuff and believes it's top notch.

No worries, i know he's marmite.

i think you have to find coaches or videos that work for you. Some coaches make ace P+Es, some are better at explanation vids.

The 'overnight' in OM is a joke - it's a broad strategy and you still have to do all the work of understanding solver play per scenario to flesh out the main style. But it's a nice default. And at the least it's one consistent style that can be honed and replicated (and therefore understood) and I don't see that on offer anywhere else, where you're usually bouncing off coaches and different methods. I've done more study per minute out of his stuff than anyone else

I purchased the course. I'm not too deep into the course yet but preflop charts are wholly uninteresting. You can probably guess at them and be 99% right. One of the first lessons is about how to simplify from his charts and what adjustments make sense given certain rake structures.

I'm actually intrigued by the redline course and am considering doing that first. It's pretty short, but it has a section on overbetting (something the red line winners I know do a LOT of) and a deep dive into the BxB line which I have really high hopes for. There's another section on check raising as well. I'll probably save it for the end, but I'm not gonna lie that section has me much more intrigued than the main Exploits course.

Here is a great podcast Uri did with Doug on Monday. The charts are a guide and then we learn how to deviate. Charts are never "end all, be all". Just reference points. I timestamped it for ya'll.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN0FyrDuHsw&t=4532s

I've been a big fan of Uri's RIO content and youtube content for awhile now. Just really like how he explains / teaches. I'm just a scrub though with too much time on my hands.
