Unfortunately, I'm only in NYC for two days and then off to DC. Friday night we are going to a Broadway show and then Saturday we are having dinner with some of my Mom's relatives.

However, I think we should still do an AC meet-up sometime next year. My vacation days are pretty much tapped out for 2009, but I get an extra 5 days in 2010. I also want to head down to the WSOP for the 2+2 meet-up next year too and I think we need some of the regular uNL/SSNL crowd to make an appearance - Sammy/knn I'm looking at you! I assume that Split will likely be down there for it and I heard this year's event was a pretty good time.

If there's a decent exhibition at the museum of modern art, that's usually worth seeing. I wouldn't go there to see just the standard stuff but it's a nice bonus and works as a decent mental snack afterwards. http://www.kiasma.fi/index.php?id=11&L=1

Some of the interesting sights are at the very center, and the rest are easily accessible via trams. While this page merely lists some architectural sights, but they are next to otherwise neat spots.

Be warned though - the weather will be horrible. Try to find as much to do indoors as possible. (For the record, I've seen Scots complain about foul weather in conditions that would merely qualify as a normal mid-fall day in southern Finland. That gives you an idea.)

St. Petersburg is close enough but maybe not for just a day. My wife went there for a couple of days just before summer and complained that she didn't have nearly enough time to see the city. Might want to visit Tallinn instead, as you can get there on a ferry (or a speedier boat, a seacat) in a flash.

You can also go visit Bostik where it's already 2 meters of snow
