2 28" monitors? Crazy rbracco...i have one 27" monitor with like a 2560x1600 display and i swear its destroying my eyes if I put my web browser on it, mainly because the font is so small, and i have too much ego to make the font bigger/resolution display from 100% to 150% because I think my vision is fine, even tho its slowly deteriorating. But yea, as Syous said, and many earlier posters...as long as you have 2 ports on the video card, whether it be VGA/DVI, DVI/DVI, or VGA/HDMI, or any combination, you can have dual monitors.

"DVI is better than VGA for TFTs because they are digital and VGA is analog. A TFT displayes its picture digitally, pixel per pixel. Via DVI the panel gets data for each pixel, so the picture generated in the graphics card will match exact with the pixels on the panel itself.

Not so with VGA. First, the picture is generated digitally in the graphics card. Then it's converted to analog. In the TFT they will be converted again to digital (=> senseless twice conversion => quality loss), using the phase and the clock, and it'll be calculated which pixel should display what color. As the phase and clock can't be adjusted so precisely that a pixel of a picture generated by the graphics card will be displayed by the appropriate pixel on the panel. Means that the picture will be interpolated a little bit, which again means quality loss.

The electron cannons of the CRT need analog signals, that's why VGA is the best for CRTs and DVI would make no sense here.
For TFTs, DVI is the best. I won't get a TFT with no DVI."

Found online somewhere. Hope that helps. TFT are basically LCD screens, and CRT's are your old school huge monitor box things.

Ok, so when you are shopping for a desktop, and you want dual monitor capabilities, just look up the video card that comes with it. Most video cards these days come with 2 ports (DVI/VGA) on them, so you shouldn't have toooo much trouble. But, if you get on-board graphics, you might not be able to run dual monitors. Make sure you check the video card out on google before you buy it, just to make sure it has enough video display ports

dvi = higher quality

i recommend getting a desktop custom built rather than through a company

Yeah I've heard a lot of people say this. What are the reasons for it? Just more value for the money? I would do it by I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff (despite being a comp sci major and halfway decent at programming).

Also I am buying a new desktop if anybody has recommendations. Will a lot of desktops have video cards that are already ready to run 2 monitors or am I gonna have to buy a new one? Anything under $1000 is cool for the comp but obviously the cheaper and more powerful the better.
I just bought a new comp and am going to be dual monitoring. It was Dell and cost $700. On my phone so if you want you can pm me and I'll send you the specs of it tomorrow.

Happened to me when I first got my new monitors. I ended up having to get glasses because my eyes were getting tired from all the refocusing. I also learned the correct monitor position should be the length of your arm with your palm flat to the monitor screen. The monitor should be right at your palm if you hold your arm out straight in front of you. (after fixing distance, no longer needed glasses)

Does that make it so my eyes dont start to go bad from looking at the small font so far away?

Currently my 27" monitor is about 5 inches away from my palm, if i hold it straight out in front of me. Should I move it closer to prevent vision deterioration

edit: i just moved my monitor closer, maybe that will help lol

Gonna go search tech forum but thought a lot of you guys here might have 2 monitors and might know.
Instead of getting a new graphics card and a 2nd 27'' monitor with that lousy resolution i would recommend buying a 30'' monitor with a 2560x1600 resultion.

It'll cost some more $ but (i assume) you play for a living and use it several hours every day and plan on doing so some more years so i would just get the best available.

Same for PC, chair and mouse.
