How can someone (excluding the blind) be hot and not know it?

Girls who grew up ugly and blossom late or who have lost weight to become hot might have lingering self-esteem issues that prevent them from realizing how attractive they are, and they'll look far better to us than they do to themselves.

I stumbled across a link to a women forum here or somewhere else about this exact same thing.
It can lead to depressions and some of them start hating life because people start to treat them normally.

every model I've ever met is this type because they were all super gawky in high school.

I'm not sure why people with self-esteem issues are a desirable demographic.

With respect to models it is a hard career even for girls who grew up attractive. I was a chaperone at a modelling convention a few years back and the evaluations are just brutal.

yeah that's exactly what I was thinking when I read this:

All other things being equal, I want a girl who knows she's attractive. She'll be more fun to go out with, less high maintenance, and the sex will be better.

Not picking on vintage, but I think a lot of guys like the "don't know they're hot" type because they don't think they have a chance otherwise.

Vintage mostly wants a girl who will speak only when spoken to and STFU most of the rest of the time.

(I'm exaggerating, but only somewhat.)

I find that hard to believe, in the sense that you'd think people paying them to be models might tip them off as to how attractive they are

I mean of the ones I know/knew well enough they all had an intellectual understanding they were attractive, but they certainly didn't act like it.

seriously, how many girls who are 5'10+ when they're 16 have an easy time of it in high school? that stays with you.

The industry is brutal honest about even the smallest flaw that none of us would even see and to add to that their frame of reference is other people who are just as hot as they are. Add in the pressure of them fully realizing how short of a shelf-life they have and it has an impact.

In my experience there is no such thing as a girl that's hot and doesn't know it, except for a few girls that have severe, blaring red siren emotional issues. And those girls are relentlessly jealous and obsessive.

99.99% of the time a hot girl knows she's hot. Even a 6 usually knows she's above average.

that is the thing, girls are way more critical of how they look than guys are. a lot of attractive girls focus on a few things they are insecure about and ignore the fact that they are overall really attractive. a lot of girls don't realize that most guys don't care if 3 of their eye lashes are slightly longer than the rest.

edit: for those who want a more scientific view point this is a case of the Dunning-Kruger effect. Basically it says that the better you are at something (classical example is intelligence, but works for a lot of things) the lower you assess your own ability. likewise the worse you are at something, the more you overestimate your ability.

a classical example of the latter is asking a room full of people if they think they are above the average intelligence in the room. the former shows up when people who do really well on tests are sure they failed.

I know that's widely believed, but it is simply not true. Yes, girls nitpick their appearance, but they are fully aware if they're of above average attractiveness because the social feedback is not ignorable.

I dunno, Zeth. Any girl who doesn't look like a troll gets hit on a fair amount. Pretty easy for a girl to look around, see girls that they find unattractive getting hit on, and think that it's just a function of guys being horny creatures.

being good looking for girls has little to do with the way they naturally look unless you're talking about fashion models. majority of girls look absolutely horrible without makeup. they all bleach their teeth, dye and straighten their hair, increase their boobs in some way, and put on a lot of makeup on. also a lot more girls than i think you guys would assume have taken accutane.

if you treat girls differently based on how they look, which i think almost everyone is guilty of, then it'll probably help to imagine them completely naked after a shower. a lot easier to put bitches in their place and not care about them. which attracts them because of that whole not used to being treated like **** thing.

also think about all the weird types of boobs and vaginas there are in the world. a lot of them are "lol bad". but i guess that goes for dicks too so maybe don't think about that aspect if you have a weird PP.
