A lesson to be learned here folks. We are in uncharted territories with this event. Pre-Register! To say that you can show up the day of or day before the event and get signed up is taking a gamble.

I don't want to read any posts here about not getting a spot when there has been plenty of time to register.

Sorry if this has been posted anywhere. There's apparently a convention or two in town the same time. Where can I get a room that's not super expensive for that Saturday Sunday and Monday ?

Some pretty decent rates in there. I would book soon, hotel rooms are running out that weekend due to those conventions combined with the poker tourneys. Prices are only going to go up.

Hotels have already been discussed in this thread, but here are a couple of general options:

1) Kayak.com, putting in the address of the Rio (3700 W Flamingo) and see what it finds within 2 miles, sort by price, low to high. From that point it depends on your preference for quality of hotel and distance. Some website called Amoma they link to has a room at the Orleans which wouldn't be half bad (and has a poker room). It may only be one available room, though. You could take shuttle from Orleans to Gold Coast then walk from there if you're really on a budget, although it will take a while.

2) Caesars.com, using the WSOP code for discounts (as mentioned above). Note that the code is hotel specific, so switch codes when you look at another Caesars hotel. Best options are likely to be Flamingo, Harrahs, and Ballys. Harrahs and Ballys have shuttle to Rio, not sure about Flamingo.

Gold Coast is sold out for the period of this tourney. I waited too long to book so I'm stuck at Linq/Quad/IP again.

It was stated on their website that you have to make two separate reservations if booking online.

Make reservation by phone. You can still get any offer code applied.

Depending on how many flights you are registering for.

He might be asking how much you need to tack on top of the registration fees. If it's domestic, I think you send the exact amount for the buy-ins. But if it's international there may be surcharges on the receiving end that eat into the amount you sent. That was one person's experience (Aussie Rhino, I think?).

Can someone who successfully did a domestic wire confirm that sending the exact amount worked out for them, e.g. you bought into 2 Colossus flights so you sent $1130?

Can't tell for sure. But u are going to get surprise of your Poker life on 28th if you are playing 5D IMHO.

Wait, how do you pay for pre-registering? Is it money wire only? Western Union has blocked me from doing business through them. Does a credit card work?

No, a credit card will not work.

You can send a certified check though. Go to your bank and fill out a withdrawal slip. There are options on the slip to make it a certified check. Depending on your status with the bank, they may charge you a fee.

You can pay by wire transfer or by cashiers check. Western union should not come into play. Your bank can handle the transaction. My bank charged me $15 for a wire transfer.

Once you register WSOP will send you the full instructions and amount to send.

I've heard so so many horror stories over the years about bank wires getting lost I went with the cashiers check. $5 fee from bank, $6 usps priority mail (with tracking #).

I've pre-regged via cashier's check the past two years--so far it's worked exactly the way it is supposed to.

I'm finally a "happy story". After 9 weeks. Sent wire from Aus, took me 3-4 weeks to confirm receipt... And that BOA eat $25 for themselves.

Bank was understanding and let me draw international check without fee, which I sent via registered mail. I followed up on Mon after 5 weeks and got the confirmation a couple of hours ago.

The lesson... I would pre-reg / wire again, but will be sure to overpay and use balance of funds once in Vegas.

Got my confirmation for 5C after sending a certified check in 8 days. Can't wait to play my first WSOP event!
