The US elections. The show must go on... The US elections. The show must go on...

This 'alternative facts' business - I can't tell if it's the media in the uk that are overplaying this, but what the hell is that all about?

Also, it seems surreally childish for the press officer for the white house to rant about crowd numbers.

Heh, 'alternative facts' does has a touch of the 'doublespeak' brush about it. Softening up you yanks for a more thorough acceptance of doublethink, I assume.

It must be a little concerning that Trump's truth is shaping up to be the only acceptable official truth - and his truth is his beliefs, without much regard to reality or evidence.

Glad I'm over this side of the pond, to be honest, and I'm one of those people that thought 'eh, give him a chance, who knows what he's actually going to turn out like once he's in office'.

I'm still inclined to think that actions speak louder than words, and it might work out - but man, this whole business about crowd size and the anger it seems to be generating within the White House seems petty to the point of grotesque.

DB, the obvious lies about crowd numbers are simply deflection. That's what they want you to be talking about. Instead of Trump saying he now will not release his tax returns, the confirmation hearings, and - perhaps most scary - this bill - which calls for the United States to terminate our involvement with the United Nations.

He speaks a lot of jibber jabber and it gives me a headache just looking at his transcripts. He's a nut. He's a bully. He can't stay on topic and never manages to make a point. Everything is amazing.

Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. No, not you. Not you. Your organization is terrible. Your organization is terrible. Let's go. Go ahead. Quiet. Quiet. She's asking a question. Don't be rude. Don't be rude. Don't be rude. No, I'm not going to give you a question. I'm not going to give you a question. You are fake news. Go ahead. Go ahead.

Trump speak: "He is really, really a not smart person."

mrbaseball, why don't you just simply choose to ignore the thread?

Seems like a thread where Loungers can talk about politics makes sense.

I don't see pollution here, unless you don't think the dealings of the most powerful man in the world should be discussed at all.

How about the thread focuses on policy debate instead of "Trump is a moron" type stuff?

For instance, Trump's actual actions thus far:
Rescinded planned interest rate decrease for FHA loans
Departed TPP trade deal/talks
Re-instated ban on foreign aid to groups that offer counseling on abortion

I, for one, welcome brexit updates unfiltered through US media.

Let's not forget Trump also declared (legally) that his inauguration day is now ‘National Day of Patriotic Devotion’.

Here's a link to the Washington Post story.

Cliff notes:
"On Monday, the paperwork was filed with the federal government declaring officially that Jan. 20, 2017 — the day of Trump's inauguration — would officially be known as the 'National Day of Patriotic Devotion.' "

As long as you appreciate how I feel about the EU is pretty much the same way as Picard feels about the Borg

It does sound very bad. Then I found out Obama did something similar in 2013, except he named it a day of hope and resolve. I wonder if other president's do this. If so, that doesn't seem like something for a democratic leader to do.

It turns out the tradition of making inauguration day a national holiday started with George H. Bush. It has been continued by Clinton, Bush Jr., Obama and Trump. I strongly dislike this tradition.

And Republicans take the 1st step to turn over Federal lands to the states. Not a big deal in the East, but huge out West. States are much easier to convince to sell land for development and open lands to mining, oil, grazing.

Remember those guys who took over the Oregon sanctuary? Yeah, their cause.
