You can always look at the spreadsheet, linked in the OP, to see what categories are used up. Looks like there are still 5 people who need a songwriter. It is also incorrect to assume any one musician won't be elected as a songwriter, so your categorization of the possible picks is unfounded. Who is to say what surprises await us as this draft goes on?

Yeah, the ladies are a tough one for the choices in this draft. Everyone went to rock and roll and that was likely a mistake if you are seeking a good female vocalist to work with after choosing a male. I am somewhat surprised that everyone went to that direction, but then again, Rock is the only area that makes complete sense if you are looking for money and longevity.

ah totally forgot about the spreadsheet. didn't realize there were still 5 ppl left that needed a songwriter. that def makes me feel better. def a decent chance someone would've snatched him as i assume i'm not the only person who appreciates his genius.

Yes, but please stop mentioning undrafted musicians in this thread. You have been the biggest offender of this so far. There's never been a punishment for this behavior in any other draft, and I don't want to be the first to dole it out.

As far as money being earned by the picks chosen so far I am way ahead of the next best.

He was HUGE in Europe, and would have just gotten bigger.

And I know you keep mentioning it, and while it makes sense to have some kind of objective criteria by which to judge this draft, it's obviously not just about the money for anyone here.

I considered, briefly, drafting the first one on this list, but thought better of it since I knew how much grief I'd get.

I'm being tongue-in-cheek about the money thing.

Of course it's about the money. What the hell kind of CEO is going to create a vanity band that no one wants to listen to? For that reason, I'm taking undrafted AND undrafted. Who needs talent?

Here's a video of Bruce in Europe singing Dancing in the Dark onstage with some German girl with braless titties. Enjoy. FF to about 4:40. Pretty funny when he's just staring at her chest lol.

I heard [undrafted] was so HUGE in Europe that Germany named a city after him, but that doesn't mean I'm going to draft him.

who is being levelled here?

my thought processes so far have been:

are they popular?
are they big money earners?
do I like them?

I am Australian but I also have to think about my group touring USA #1 and what would be relevant to them. Not sure some of the Aussie musos I know would get a second look over there.

I think

There's a few Aussie bands that did really good in America.

Oh yeah UNDRAFTED and UNDRAFTED did well over there for sure.

Actually, can't believe Aussie UNDRAFTED didn't get a lead guitarist gig in this thread.

Okay, guys. Jabonator has about one hour to go and Legen42 is on deck and is up in about 2 hours. I guess with waiting for Jabonator and its_just_me each time, there will be no more drafts until tomorrow morning.

Suggested rule: If you have been skipped and you don't do your makeup before your next turn, you are auto-skipped. Probably puts the end-caps in an odd place, so probably not the greatest idea. idk.

Okay: I thought about this. If you have been skipped, you get 2 hours on your next turn. Clogging the machine for 16 hours is too much.

kthx

I guess I'm up.

This is getting really tough. Kinda hoping some people would get picked, so I didn't have such a hard time making my mind up between them.

Spoiler:

Bono

One of the most influential people in the music industry. This fact added together with the hate that U2 occasionally get, it's easy for people to forget one fact - he's a great vocalist. Personal voice, good range, and can sing soft as well as rock out. U2 is pretty much as basic rock as it gets, but Bono's voice has some great tones suitable for more bluesy/jazzy/gospely music as well.

Okay I have two picks:

First one. I need somebody strong on the keys. Dylan writes a ton of songs on the piano, Bruce has two keyboardists in his band...let's go with someone who has been a member of probably the two greatest rock bands of all time:

Billy Preston

He brings everything I need, as a session guy, a live performer, a creative artist in his own right. has obviously worked with McCartney. He just fits this group perfectly.

Second pick:

This ain't show friends, it's show business. I'm taking someone who was just about as important in the rock and roll scene as most of the musicians.

Bill Graham

Legendary promoter and businessman, but he also had a genuine passion for the music. We need someone to book the gigs, make the record deals, keep everyone straight, and not take any ****.

I guess if we need to pigeonhole him into a category, we'll use lawyer? I think he might have been one anyway, but that works for our purposes. I just want him on our team.

So for my next pick, I'll fill my songwriter spot. As I said, I had hopes for Paul McCartney for this spot, but as he slipped from me, I'll have to go with someone, who's continuing on the path Paul made.

Spoiler:

Noel Gallagher

Has written many of the greatest songs in the last 20 years. The driving force behind possibly the biggest band of the UK in recent history, Oasis. He has also proven his skills as a solo artist on his debut album of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. The influence of The Beatles is clearly to be heard on some of his songs, but he still does his own thing.

Round 5
Bass Player

Jack Bruce

I will admit I am not a great talent evaluator when it comes to the bass guitar. But this guys name always seems to pop up when having discussions about the best ones. I was a big Cream fan and he was a driving force behind the sound that they made so thats good enough for me. He is also a decent singer and songwriter too. White Room which he wrote is one of my all-time favorites of that era.

so far:
George Harrison (lead strings)
Buddy Holly (songwriter)
Gene Krupa (drums)
Elton John (keyboard)
Jack Bruce (bass)
