Sometimes I don't mind getting sloppy just to push myself. But usually when I do that, I do moves I don't normally do anyway, like big looping swings in all directions that you can see coming a mile away. "Ape style" heheh. Just getting all the major joints to work with speed and in coordination is sometimes good even if the moves are ridiculous.

Normally I just try to be non-telegraphic and make short moves.

What's really fun is hitting the hand-held pads people can move about, and the conditioning can be unreal.

Ape style, heh, I like that. The most practiced style in the world.

I sometimes like working in some seemingly wild movements into an attack or defense to deceive my opponent into thinking I've given them an opening. And they can be fun to do against amateurs in general. But yeah, usually that stuff is only good for shadow training. For years I kept trying to incorporate some flashy stuff into my repertoire, but I always got my ass handed to me when I deviated from the basics, and then I realized that the times I scored solid hits on my teacher were when he did the very movements I was trying to puzzle out. That's when I realized the joke was on me.

heheh

Oh well, they're a lot of fun anyway. I love spinning heel kicks and think they're well worth practicing, but can't picture myself ever using one.

Seen my cousin whom I haven't seen in 25 years tonight. Obviously a good and decent person. Man...

Stuff on 2p2 makes me laugh sometimes. And make me smile. Har har har.

Anyhow. Decided it's that time of year again to teach grammar and writing.

I had a very open discussion with a dept mate about my feelings on teaching and my potential for longevity in the field. It was the type of conversation Blarg would say is stupid to have with coworkers, but it made me feel better at least. I don't think him knowing I'm sure if I'm committed long-term to teaching is a bad thing. Seems like everyone I talk to (that's a decent teacher) feels the same way.

Worked all day today. Tomorrow, I rest.

I lean who cares. But I also start sentences with conjunctions.

Solo, I agree with you. Most of the good teachers feel the same way as you. It's a shame, really. I hope you stick with it. We need good teachers in the high schools and it's really discouraging that the best and brightest leave for better careers. You are awesome.

Blarg will be disappointed in both of us I'm afraid. Just yesterday I told my co-worker that it wouldn't break my heart if they cut my position when they restructure in a few months. I really hate my part-time job.

I worked all day today and yesterday. Tomorrow I write a paper.

These are the first two days I've had off in a while (well I worked most of Saturday) and I'm pretty ecstatic about it. Note that I was laid off a couple weeks ago but am working anyway at the same place so maybe I'm just completely confused. Mostly I've been walking around feeling stunned and confused all the time so it's a nice surprise to recognize myself and feel anything. Hey, I remember this guy!

Re teaching, I was reading that the average high school teacher is out of it within five years. Sad stat.

Katy, I envy your position of not needing to worry if you have a job or not. That kind of thing is a game-changer in life. Most people could not feel the way you do; it simply isn't an emotional option. Consider that you have something like that in your back pocket, which is actually a pretty huge thing, and be grateful, IMO.

That said, nothing wrong with hating your job. I'd guess most people do. Luckily, you've already proven to yourself that you can stick out very unpleasant things in order to get to an important goal.

aw you are still going in to work even though you were laid off? Now that's what I call dedication. I like the fact that you are so devoted to your brother that you help him out when he cannot help himself.

I'm so sorry about your situation. I feel just terrible that all this happened to you. I'm glad that you are finding yourself again.

I know. I actually can't afford to be without a job. It just goes to show how very much I don't like this part-time job! part of the time I'm alone in the morning with nothing to do but babysit the phone. And they have forbidden all of us from getting on the internet. Now that is just downright cruel is it not?

Blarg, the statistics I've heard vary, but half are out in five years seems the standard. In this job market, that statistic might actually go down. Without other options, I think the freshly graduated will be far likelier to stick it out.

I'm not sure that I will. I put in a ton of effort, and I feel pretty safe and not-exaggerating when I say that I make very little real difference. The replacement value of "me" isn't that high. That is, a new scrub teacher could come in, teach with less effort, skill, or presence than me...and it wouldn't affect student learning much.

I hate realizing/thinking that, but it's true. I can't think of a SINGLE student that I feel has really truly benefited from my presence. Granted, it's only been a year and a half, but still.

Solo, I've thought back on my h.s. days many times and there were several high school teachers who were very influential and important to me. I'm sure they don't know it. (sorry if i'm a little incoherent. lol beer ) They taught me how to study, how to approach problem solving, how to analyze novels, etc. Another thing they taught me was how to handle a room full of students. I will never stop being impressed by how professional and kind some of them were.

I am a big believer in role models and how important they are for our growth. I can honestly say that there were 3 or 4 teachers in my high school who were big role models for me. You could be that person to other kids.
