lol.

are you from ny?
you mentioned n the dining thread that you've never been to a 3* restaurant yet; so why not go to Eleven Madison Park? a friend of mine was there with his gf a few months ago and they LOVED it. daniel humm = swiss, like me; that's why i had the idea.

i've heard great things about EMP too.

i'll get around to it one of these days.

i went nomad (another of humm's restaurants) earlier this year and had the famous roast chicken. it was certainly impressive, but maybe a little too rich for my taste.

So you thought the chicken was overrated? Haven't tried it but wanted to. My one worry was that the foie gras would play too large a part in the dish.

Has anyone eaten at the BAR at EMP in the last few months? It's really hard to find any info about it online. Can you reserve or it's walk in only? Is there anywhere to see a menu?

Going to NYC in august, have rented an apartment in Williamsburg, close to the Broadway (G) subway stop.

Any recommendations on stuff to do in Williamsburg or NYC in general?

Second time in NYC, did most of the turisty stuff last time. Travelling with my by then wife, both late 20s. We are foodies, like sport, both watching and doing and stand up comedy. Plan so far is at least 2 michelin restaurants (Daniel and Lincoln ristorante planned so far), NFL preseason game, MLB game and at least 1 broadway show. Also on the hunt for the best burger in NYC. Also fans of interactive museums.

Any ideas on stuff to do close to Metlife stadium?

Where can we find a pickup softball game? We will not have any gear and have never played before so the lower level of play the better. What about flag/touch football? I have played football and have some idea of what I''m doing.

Last time we went drinking at a bar called the Levee which was fine. Any recommendations on similar places with cheap booze and stuff to do (pool/board games/arcade games or stuff like that)?

Not positive, but you can likely get tickets up until game day on Stubhub. Mets not much of a draw these days.

I lived in the City for 7 years, and I left only because 9/11 caused some PTSD stuff for me. Now, when I go back for a visit, I am surprised to find that the things that I feel that I must do and see while in NY are different from some of my more routine activities when I lived there (and, granted, the City has changed a lot--as it is always want to do).

These days, three things that I really feel remiss NOT to have done on a trip back to the City are:

1. Grab a plain slice (or 3) at the pizza joint located under Madison Garden, inside Penn Station;

2. Ride the subway to China town and poke around the shops that are sprinkled all around the side streets, within a block or two of Broadway (recently, I've been focused a great deal on the Chinese-American subculture devoted to breeding certain South American, tropical fish--especially the Arowana and the [illegal-to-sell-but-ubiquitous-in-Chinatown] Red Arowana); and

3. Going to the Met to see its collection of Italian Mannerist paintings, especially Bronzino's "Portrait of a Young Man" (which is, for me, sublime).

But that's the thing about NY, right? What's sublime for me and many others may NOT be sublime for you or your crew. The thing that is so wonderful about the City is that it will both inspire new interests, and it will also cater to your preexisting ones.

So give yourself a day, pick a part of town, and just wander around and see what you find. That's the advice I give people when they go for the first time. I find that this takes the pressure off of having to see "everything" on a single trip and allows for folks to indulge in a more tactile experience of the place (if that makes sense?).

Have fun, stay KOOLS, and GL.

This is quite useful for the summer. I was hoping to go see Caddyshack on Tuesday but I have another commitment.

I saw a couple of these last summer at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Great time. Definitely crowded though.

What are your thoughts on Jersey City vs. Manhattan/Brooklyn?

I'm moving east with the GF and have to stay within a 45 minute commute from Hamilton Park in Jersey on top of ~2000/mo rent. We're 32 and 28 so a nightlife is still a factor.

If you can live within walking distance from the path , jc is actually a good/cheaper alternative , but it's not the city and it never will be. I am probably more adamant towards it because my mom moved me out of the city when I was 13 , so I really hated Jersey for some years. I like it now , but it's still not the city.

I also have to add that union city is starting to change to. It is majority Hispanic still , but as transplants figure out how easy it is to commute to midtown from there , it will change.

Where do you go for good BBQ?

I've tried Blue Smoke, Brother Jimmy's, Dallas BBQ, Daisy May's, Dinosaur BBQ, Hill Country, Rub, Southern Hospitality (not sure if this is still open).

Hill Country is probably my favorite followed by Blue Smoke (they have a new location in Battery Park City).

I haven't sampled too many places (of the ones you've listed, I've only tried Blue Smoke, Southern Hospitality, and Dinosaur) but I love Mighty Quinn's in the east village.

I haven't been a regular on the NYC BBQ scene for a good year now, but Fette Sau seems like a glaring omission from that list. I thought it was good, not great, but many say otherwise.

Hey guys I'm hoping you can help me out. I'm hoping to just hit up the good food spots and chill over the weekend with the girlfriend. Would you guys have tips for getting a good rate on a hotel in NYC? I initially looked into airbnb but I think we would appreciate the hotel amenities for a romantic weekend trip. As always, restaurant and activity recommendations would be awesome too. (Thinking about heading to montauk beach to get some sun) thanks!

I'm 24, she's 22. We want to stay 3-4 nights depending on the rate we can get for a 3.5 or 4 star hotel. We'd like to go out one night of the stay, but for activities, we only have Wicked and the Montauk Beach planned. I actually lived in Hoboken for 2 years but I've never done tourist stuff and haven't been back in NYC for a while so I'm not too familiar with what's going on.

I'd personally like to try some good Japanese ramen, bao (Momofuku) and just good food in general, but I'd like to keep it within a modest budget. I'm definitely open to suggestions. Thanks a lot

Montauk is a full day trip. Coney Island would be quicker but not as nice.

The new ramen place at the Gotham West Market in Hell's Kitchen is supposed to be good.

Had a great meal at Momofuku Ssäm Bar last week (including bao) so you should try that.

For cheap eats, consider dim sum in Chinatown (e.g., Golden Unicorn). X'ian Famous foods is also great and cheap (try the lamb burger). They have midtown and Chinatown locations that should be convenient.
