Ellis Island is great, skip the statue.

Little Italy is a minefield - a few good restaurants surrounded by dozens of tourist traps.

I actually kinda like little italy for walking and viewing the old photos in my mind. Avoid for food though - Nolita (rubirosa) is where it's at

i find myself quite bored on mon-thurs. Any suggestions for someone living in Chelsea Manhattan? I would love to find a hangout spot/coffee, bouldering gym (not brooklyn boulders) or any kind of hangout spot to meet people

Everything I've read/heard re: Spiderman is that it sucks. As for The Producers - great show, yes, but you're a little late on this recommendation. Like 5 years too late.

Yeah but for those who have never been it's decent to see, nice little park with it too, with a small little food court of sorts last time I went. Great for the kids for sure.

Phantom = awesome, Spiderman = about time that got going!

That was in the works for forever, so many delays (and injuries) so I see how it could crush hopes of being amazing and let a lot of people down.

Yeah I know I'm late, I'm new to EDF

hey guys

so I don't know NYC very well, all I know is I love the lower east side/east village however I was told for 2k and less, apartments will be REALLY small. Space is the most important for me, I also want a decent kitchen as I will be doing lots of cooking. What areas and websites should I be looking at to rent a place? TY

Also I saw Philip Seymour Hoffman @ Death of a Salesman. The cast was awesome, the play was done so amazingly well. It's a must see.

Head across the river to Williamsburg, 1-2 subway stops from East Village depending on where you live, and apartments will be more bearable in size. Not sure what 2K gets you any more in that neighborhood, but definitely better than a comparable apt in the two neighborhoods you mentioned.

My boyfriend and I will be headed back to new york for a few days in between his series again, to stay with my cousin in brooklyn. We were there for a couple days before this series and neither of us really liked new york at all... I'm sure there has to be something there worth checking out

all we really did was walk around manhattan/central park. It was cold and new york is just so dirty, I felt like I was getting sick just from the drastic change in pollution compared to BC.
We're not really into partying or anything like that. Honestly I'm not really sure what kind of things we'd want to do though. He is really big into coffee and food.. any amazing coffee places? I'm checking out the website for Annisa, as it was mentioned a few pages back. Any other awesome food places?

Some suggestions for things to do during the day would be nice as well, I'm assuming the weather still won't be much warmer than a couple weeks ago...

Yeahh, we're already looking forward to going home and that's over a month away. Being away makes it so much easier to appreciate going back to BC.

Can't wait to get back to PS... so sick of this merge bull****.

I really like 71 Irving Place for coffee, Joe's in the Village is also pretty good. For food, read the thread or go on Yelp, there are a million options, and there are dozens, if not hundreds of absolutely outstanding options.

You may also want to check out Brooklyn (e.g. Park Slope, Cobble Hill), it might be a lot closer to your speed.

For a lot of the most popular restaurants on a weekend you have to make reservations a month out. Depending where you are in Brooklyn there's lot of good coffee places (Blue Bottle, Stumptown, Cafe Grumpy, Gimme Coffee, note these are all in Manhattan as well).

Also check out ny.eater.com for lists of good food places

Gorilla coffee in Park slope brooklyn is really awesome if your staying near there. The neighborhoods quite nice to with lots of good places to eat, some nice shops, right next to prospect park (nicer than Central imo) and even better if the weathers nice.

Gimme coffee is good. There's one in williamsburg I think. But I've only been to the one in the city.

Id stay away from gorilla.
There's some funny/weird story on it from FIPS.

I might share but I'm leaning more towards getting a place of my own if a decent one can be obtained for the 2-2.5k area

thoughts on living in midtown west? I haven't explored midtown much but I imagine it can't be a bad spot right?

What does midtown west mean? Hell's Kitchen? I like it, especially if you're young.

yeah, that areaish

I really like the bars in lower east but I've seen a couple places I liked in midtown, I just don't know it very well. Why is the lower east side so expensive? Seems like you get more modern places w/more space at a better value in midtown.

There's cool stuff to do in LES, enough that it outweighs the small/old housing stock for most people.
