Interstellar will be like Contact I agree. I've read murmurs that its good; not Oscar good however. Doesn't really surprise, I don't think I would look much farther than Nolan for a film that entertains me but may be short of magnificence. Their (him and his brother) story writing is pretty plain, their story telling is great I think. Or maybe that's backwards. All I know is their ideas offer a unique perspective that I enjoy immensely.

On a side note, I've decided to avoid trailers entirely, aside from when I have to sit through them before a show.
I agree with this. I adore The Prestige. Inception was terrific. The Dark Knight owns. I don't know if I'd put any of their movies down as Oscar winners, but I don't know that this means anything except they don't make the kind of movies that tend to win, not that there is anything lesser about their movies. The Nolans tend to make films that are terrifically entertaining and thought provoking.

I'll take biblical knowledge for $2000 Alex.

How many of each animal did Moses take on the Ark?

1... one male and one female.

I hope it's at least as good contact, that movie is pretty good.

Watched 2001 last weekend, hard to see anyone make a scifi movie as great as that again. I heard the game of thrones producers are doing Kim Stanley robinson's Mars series and I'd love to see a TV adaptation of the foundation series. Everything else is pretty mediocre.

I find Nolan's movies to be pretty soulless and sterile, so I'm not anticipating anything like Zemeckis' Contact. Zemeckis is kind of the opposite of Nolan -- his flaws are that he can be too corny and sentimental. There were probably more compelling and believable relationships between characters in Contact than all of Nolan's movies combined.

I heard a funny line in the commercial trailer for Interstellar. Caine is talking to McConaughey and he says... "you're the best pilot we have!"

really... a pilot on a interstellar voyage.

I don't know...

I think that summation is just a tad harsh on Nolan. I find a lot of feeling in Nolans films and much to grab onto emotionally. I do find that at times, Nolan seems to slightly loose control over the action sequences and reverts to a formalized playing out of those scenarios. when that happens I just roll my eyes and hold my breath until the bad portion of the action has passed and then I am okay again.

Well I despise Nolan so yeah if you like Nolan at all that's pretty harsh. I don't like superhero movies in general so I was prejudiced walking into the first two Batman movies and man did they not deliver. The second one in particular felt four hours long.

Inception...there was just nothing there. The movie wasn't about the characters, it was about the puzzle. I remember talking to a girl who had watched Inception like 20 times and she said "every time I watch it I learn something else." "Right, something new ABOUT THE MADE UP PUZZLE." Not, like, about the human experience. I liked Memento when I saw it fifteen years ago but would probably hate it if I watched it today. It's perfect Nolan material. There can be no character development, there can be no relationships, because the dude forgets everything after like ninety seconds or whatever. There is only the puzzle. PERFECT!!!!

Haha I did say Noah like a dumbass. I was typing on my phone and blew right through it. ****ing idiot I am, Moses! Movie still looks good though, visually awesome.

I dunno the protocol for posting about movies you've seen a million times, but watched unforgiven again last night and godamn it's just ****ing amazing.

Maybe we should have a thread for films you've seen minimum 20 times. By choice, obv

Unforgiven is a masterpiece and perhaps the greatest western ever made.
10-24-2014 , 07:12 PM
Unforgiven is great but it's not better than the old Ford and Hawks westerns. Hell, I doubt it's better than McCabe & Mrs. Miller.

I'm doing this weird thing where I comment on Interstellar after I see the movie.
10-24-2014 , 07:50 PM
I haven't seen a Nolan film that I haven't enjoyed and I love sci fi so I'm pretty pumped for Interstellar although less pumped then when it was first announced.

Birdman or Wick?

Edit: I was thinking of seeing a movie to wait out traffic, but the feeling passed. The 405 won.

Them's fightin' words! Better than The Good, The Bad & The Ugly? Better than The Assassination of Jesse James?

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly probably goes #1 and I'm a huge fan of the Assasination of Jesse James (I'm related to him) but that movie isn't in the same realm. Lets not forget John Wayne in The Searchers fellas.

I like Unforgiven and True Grit (2010) better than AoJJ or The Searchers. Unforgiven is the best Western I've ever seen AINEC

i reallly liked true grit. i have not seen unforgiven. will likely give it a go this weekend along with 2001: a space odyssey i am way behind the times. also, i really want to see birdman.

I got Unforgiven #2, but miles behind The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.

End Of Watch. 7/10 A decent watch. At least they didn't have some rushed, miraculous escape against all the odds.
10-24-2014 , 10:40 PM
I think tGtB&tU is #1 for sure.

#2 could be Unforgiven, but The Outlaw Josey Wales and High Plains Drifter are right there as well.
