Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Really enjoyed Prince Avalanche which is on Netflix Watch instantly. Its a little different than most movies you watch but the soundtrack is bomb and the relationship between Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch is pretty compelling. Its about 2 guys in the woods painting road lines and can see how people can really dislike it or love it.

9/10

Thanks!

Actually watched Upstream Color. Is it strange to watch that movie and have to google about it to actually understand something?

I liked the dialogue, the scenery etc, but that's it.

Is that aborted/double post about Primer some kind of time loop thing?

Watched Primer last night with some friends. I enjoyed the movie. My enjoyment of the film was significantly diminished because I went in expecting Primer to be hard to follow. I don't think I've ever went into a movie before thinking: "I'm going to solve this." I wish I knew nothing about Primer before I saw it. Having said that, there is no-way I walked away from that movie knowing exactly what the **** happened. After finishing the movie a fierce hour long debate erupted between myself and my friends regarding theories on the movie.

Overall, Primer is a enjoyable movie, I appreciate the hard work Shane Carruth put into making it. I wish I could have seen it without being told how complex it was. I was focused more on "cracking it" than I was on just enjoying it. Odd thing that stood out the most was the soundtrack. I thought it was exceptional.

Good movie, watch it with friends. 4/5.
spoiler alert, this is what happens when EVERYONE watches his films. Expectations or not it's not as if you can treat them like a light narrative or cookie cutter sci-fi. The bold print is unavoidable young grasshopper.

I went into Upstream Color with the mindset of trying to figure it out, but with Primer, I didn't know anything about it, so when they revealed what they created on accident, I was like oh ****, that's what this movie is about.

I may regret the decision to see this movie, Oscar Bait: The Movie. If you can guess the title I will bow and call you master.

Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas?

I walked out of August: Osage County because it was painfully bad. The entire cast over acts every single scene. This is a film that reeks "Let's go out there and win some Oscars!" Such a **** movie.

I have to say that Alexander Payne knocked it out of the ball park once again with "Nebraska".

while not the only genre of film I enjoy, I DO VERY MUCH enjoy a down to earth dose of dry reality like the movie Nebraska expertly delivers. Touching, sad and poignant for Thousands of families across America without being spruced up by fancy dialog, obtuse introductions of characters to help drive the story with intrigue or some fanciful ending that could only happen in Hollywood.

the movie is beautiful framed, textured and full of long shots that draw the viewer in to the silence and slow passing of time and for Dern, identity.

I thought the movie was well planned and written without banter and dialog above the station of the people being portrayed in the story... a simply people from a simple place.

It was also very interesting that the writer set the events in motion with the main superbly portrayed bruce dern character, Woody Grant, driving the story only to have it slowly shift from the father (bruce dern) towards the son (will forte).

Really?? The play won a Pulitzer. How bad can it be.

It's as if David O Russell said to himself, "I need to make my version of Goodfellas/Casino," and royally ****ed it up. Don't get me started on Adams with her terrible British accent. I believe her accent is deliberately terrible, but man it's like, Tim Robbins bad in Mystic Rivaaahhh. American Hustle isn't as grand scale as it hopes to be. It comes off like a pretentious, douchey costume period piece. **** this film made me angry!

fwiw I enjoyed Bale in this film. he was pretty solid. otherwise i was quite bored. i'm curious to see what the rest of you think. i seem to be in the minority so far.
i just got to see american hustle but i'm not sure it's the same movie you described. the movie i saw was fast-paced, brimming with energy, directed with verve, and completely hilarious. also, the complaint about adams's accent is absurd: sydney (adams) is a former stripper originally from albuqurque; she's supposed to speak the queen's english?

I think I said I wouldn't see American Hustle after Cro's review, but it's been getting good reviews and I think I'm back on board. Maybe tomorrow night.

Each line delivery feels so forced. It's like they're just there to recite lines. I felt no chemistry, no pull, nothing at all. I told a friend, "I've seen more convincing performances in porn films."

I admitted itt that I seem to be in the minority. Take all the things I hate about the film and it would transfer seamlessly into a glowing review of the film.
12-20-2013 , 01:13 AM
In my films, you most certainly would!

Hmm wonder if I've previously "enjoyed" any of your films haha

Dom, please refer to Mel Gibson's Hamlet. Sure, it didn't win a Pulitzer, but it ain't bad, and the movie is terrible.

I know many people feel that way, but I think Franco Zeferelli's Hamlet starring Mel Gibson was excellent.

A friend of mine loved August Osage County so who knows, maybe there is an audience out there for it. A quick glance at Rotten Tomatoes and i see a "fresh" rating which doesn't always mean very much.
