No numerals, but the Prometheus Signatura is nice, sub 500$ auto with white face and blue hands.

I've noticed that Prometheus and like the face, but it's too big for my tastes and tiny wrist at 42mm

I am reposting a pic of the Prometheus Signatura. I wasn't familiar with the model and had a feeling the pic wasn't a good representation of its real life look. The review below where I borrowed the pic from is pretty good and the pics are great. The reviewer even states the face is "white white white". It certainly doesn't look that way in the pic posted. (it would be the Steinhart or this for me)

Oh man, the Signatura is back in stock on their site, but I don't have the $500 atm. I was looking to buy it a few months back, but they were sold out.

Good deal on this old Omega Geneve? I'm concerned about the dial looking faded, not sure what's going on, but condition looks good.

Meh, I dunno. It looks nice, but Geneve is a lower-end Omega model. You can often find similar pieces on a strap in the $300 range. Also I'm very wary of integrated bracelets, if that thing breaks you're gonna have a bad time.

Damn that guy takes good pictures though, the hand in pocket picture likes it has to be heavily shopped or something?

Never been in love with Omega but it's like the universe wants me to like them recently.

I think you'd be a bit crazy to spend that amount on a Maurice Lacroix watch. If it were me I would buy something which was going to hold its value a bit better, even if that meant saving for a bit longer.

It's not unattractive though. The way the indications are set out kinda puts me in mind of this one:

Really like this. Maybe to much going on?

My Orient Blue Mako continued to run 5 seconds fast per minute after five days of ownership, so I walked it over to the Orient USA headquarters today. They took it to service under warranty, which will take 2-3 weeks.

I've been loving reading through this thread. Now I'm looking for suggestions:

I want to spend $1-$3k
Have narrowed companies to Omega (prob slightly favored), Breitling, Tag, IWC, and Rolex
Used is fine and preferred
Must be an everyday watch that looks nice in a variety of settings (will use bracelet)
I'd like something that will hold it's value reasonably well
I want something that stands out a little, but not too crazy.
I think I like colored or grey dials, but this isn't a strong lean.
I'm looking in the 42mm range in terms of size

I definitely like the new ceramic Seamasters, but they seem a little overpriced to me.

Any ideas? Thanks a ton in advance!

2254.50

It's a classic, checks all your boxes, and is just all-around excellent.

Expect to pay around $2k for a piece in 90+% condition with boxes and papers, prices for this model have been increasing pretty steadily since it was discontinued (I got mine for $1250 a few years ago), but they've been pretty steady around $2k for a while now.

Heart pvn

Anything to look (or look out) for on that model? Variations? I think I've also only really seen in in person in black.

I thought this was interesting, in hunting:

There are variants, but they all have different model numbers. The electric blue is the most common, there are also violet and brown dial limited editions, titanium models (in either black or blue iirc), GMT variants in white or black dial, and a chrono or two. Some of those are available with a quartz movement if you're into that.

There's also a really nice limited edition known as the "non-AC" with a slightly nicer dial (applied logo and indices) and a white gold bezel. Very hard to find, though.

I would suggest you just get the 2254.50 to start. If you ever want to try the variants you will have no trouble at all flipping the original.

I agree with pvn to go with the 2254.50. An alternative is the 2201.51 (the 42mm PO) but it will be a few hundred more and would just be an aesthetics choice.

If you really want a chrono, I would rather go with a speedmaster professional 3570.50 or 3573.50 (if you can find the sapphire sandwich for a good price) instead of a seamaster 7750 based one.

Don't know, really don't like the bracelet on the PO's and think it goes better on rubber as a casual watch. Given request for bracelet, I'd opt for a Breitling I think. I know some folks meh the Breitlings, but seem to fit the requests better in my opinion.

If you go a little bigger, I personally love the Blackbird (used for under 4k). If smaller, I think you have options in some of the other models like Colt and not sure if Chronomat line makes 42mm.

If you do go Omega, from what you're looking at I like the Aqua Terra much better than the Seamaster Pro. They make a 42mm (I think it's 41mm actually) grey faced dial which is just beautiful in my opinion. I believe you can get it with the older movement in your price range.

Rolex and IWC in that range don't think will work unless you go for an older Rolex type but think it's too 'old' to be totally versatile.

My two cents...

actually thats not a bad idea.

Even the 8500 based Aqua Terra is within reach used.

as to Breitling, if you are getting a chrono, I would rather pay a bit extra and get the B01 based one. I'm actually surprised by how much they are in the used market, quite a bit less than I was expecting

Second Aqua Terra post is the watch -- bracelet much better than PO, beautiful versatile dial. Done and enjoy. :-)

EDIT: * IF * I had to critique the watch at all I wish that the end of each hand had the same pointed arrow and not just on the minute hand. But I'm a critical fahk.

Meh, 41mm for a dress-watch-shaped piece like the aqua terra is stupid big. If you have a huge wrist then maybe but if you have normal sized arms then you're going to look like flavor flav. Just be advised.

Well it's not a thin pure dressy watch I'd actually consider it more sporty looks wise even if it has aspects of dressiness. Anyhoo, 2013.. big is in! ;-)

I'd snap buy this if I had larger wrists: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...=0#msg_6561657
