Hey, haven't followed this thread at all but was brought to the forum and figured I'd ask real quick. Anyone have thoughts on U-Boat watches? I'm not EXACTLY in the market but I don't own a real nice watch and a friend of mine who knows a good deal about watches strongly recommends picking something up ala http://www.amazon.com/U-Boat-Nero-Ch.../dp/B008P5D1OE as an entry level. Any experiences?

If you're into big ass watches and want something douchey and have money to throw away but not enough to get a Panny then uboat seems like the way to go.

Haha, well, could you clarify at all? I really know nothing about watches, I do like the look/feel of larger watches (and regular sized watches) and relatively simpler faces (but have no idea how big that thing is). Why douchey? I guess I don't even know how to formulate an opinion in this case...

That watch you posted is FIFTY THREE MILLIMETERS. That's obscenely huge. Flava Flav has clocks smaller than that.

O dam I did not see that. Ok probably a bit large.

here's a smaller UBoat that is "only" 50mm

I have two watches that I wear around and the one that always gets "wow that's a big watch" comments that took me a while to get used to is apparently 35x42 now that I look into it, so point taken. Haha, those U-Boats are ridiculous...

Uboats are overpriced and oversized with ginormous crown caps that are just decorative. They have also had quality control issues in the past.

Bixby...... dont get an U boat.

I'd say BR is a sizable step up and still has lots of "cool factor" without mineral glass(?) or a ridiculous crown.

I've seen that tourby in person. It's awesome.

BR-03 is a lot more than that U-Boat tho. Even used you're looking at like $2k.

Glycine Incursore would be more in the same style, more reasonable size, and just a few bills more than the uboat.

Oh it's quartz.

Get a Citizen imo

Bixby,

I'd browse through the thread here for awhile and get a sense of what you like stylistically. People here will be helpful finding similar styles in your price range.

The "What Are You Wearing" daily thread over at WatchUSeek is nice to check out if you want to see a bunch of different styles of nice watches across all price ranges. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/%AB%...BB-862272.html

for yet more cool factor, go for a huge ass panerai- it was in the expendables!

Does anyone have recommendations on a watch case? Have enough watches now i need somewhere convenient to store them. Seems most of the cases have mixed reviews on Amazon.

I want to pull the trigger on a Tissot Visodate, but I've been reading that it can run around 15-20 seconds off.

Anybody have one that can comment on this little hiccup?

Leaning towards the black on black strap.....although I wish it came in SS bracelet.

15-20 seconds is pretty much standard for a low-grade automatic movement. If you need more than that get a g-shock.

Cool, I think I'm fine with the movement then, and I can service it if it gives me issues.

Next question, black dial on black strap or silver dial w/ brown strap?

I'm torn because I slightly lean towards the silver face, but I mostly wear black shoes and belt to work which means I should get a black strap. I suppose I could just buy a black replacement strap though. I have only seen the black dial in person and do think it looks decent though. Thanks.

If you like the silver dial, get it. Depending on who you get it from, you would probably be able to get the silver dial with black strap, or get both straps. If not, there are plenty of options for an aftermarket black strap.

Life is way too ****ing short to not get the watch you want because you're worried about matching with your shoes.

can always change the strap, can't change the face..

I'd go for the Seiko SARB065 instead of the Tissot, then you can have silver face with black strap. The dial on the Seiko really pops, I like the blue second and I prefer not having the day marker. But this exact argument has been had on watchuseek and people go both ways.
