just because something costs 10k, 20k, it doesn't mean it's a watch to be worn when dressed up. the watches in this thread are generally versatile in that they are daily wearers that can be worn in 95% of situations. hell you can wear a dress watch in most situations anyway.

you're completely misunderstanding. there's a huge difference between "dressing down" or wearing casual clothing and dressing like a slob.

i just find it funny to see a $15k watch on the wrist of a guy wearing poorly fitting levis, a wrinkled old t-shirt and ugly, worn out sneakers.

i have zero beef with wearing an expensive watch with casual clothing, but if you're gonna spend $15k on a watch, why not spend more than $150 on the rest of your outfit? (ideally with the help of someone at least somewhat style-conscious)

That's a good question. There's some pricey pieces in their new Oceanus line, which is supposed to be their high-end, but I don't think any of them approach the MSRP on the flagship MR-Gs (maybe $1000 on the top Oceanus vs. $2500 for the MRG-8000).

I think that thing is like 55mm. The glycine is about 53mm IIRC.
I actually really like this. Does this make me a bad person? I do have big wrists. . . and I've been looking for a casual, chunky, attention grabbing watch. . .

In this case I won't give a **** about the brand. It's just a look. Most people aren't like forum members here. I get compliments all the time on my Kenneth Cole Rxn (Lol, I know) watch.

This pretty much sums up what I was trying to say fwiw.

And damn, finding some MRGs for 2.9k, how different are they from their standard radio controlled watches?

Kind of surprised they haven't become a fascination of rappers as they love Gshocks, expensive watches, and it has "Mr-G" printed right on it.

You are probably a bad person but not because of what watch you like IMO.

Yeah, I think stinkeypete explained it well. It's not that you can't wear a nice watch with casual clothing (saying otherwise is obviously ridiculous), but at least for me I find it odd that someone cared enough to spend $5k on a watch but somehow didn't find it important enough to take an interest in how they dress. Like, for me the time I cared about nice-ish timepieces is the same point in time where I started caring about how I dressed. For the two to not be related is obviously possible, but something I have a hard time understanding. That's all.

I dunno guys, I sometimes wear shorts, flip-flops, and a stained t-shirt, but not every day. And on some of those days, I go to the grocery store and stuff like that.

it's just a watch. it means different things to different people. you can't buy class and sophistication with a watch. likewise not wearing a luxury watch doesn't indicate a lack of sophistication. most luxury watches are gaudy and hideous.

I like to think I dress ok, but sure there are times when I dress like a slob/do groceries with a 5k watch.
And by ok, I mean ok for a student, nothing too fancy.
Besides there is a huge difference between a sports model like all diving watches and for example a JLC hometime, the first can be worn on every occasion, while the latter can't really be worn when dressing down. This more or less also applies for a IWC porto in my opinion, but hey most poker players don't seem to think so.

the porto is not really a dress watch in the classic sense. i wouldn't wear it if doing something active of course, though i wouldn't wear it with a suit or tux. the jlc hometime is something you can wear in a formal situation but could be worn as your daily wearer quite easily too.

Still I think a iwc porto or jlc hometime aren't really watches meant to be a daily wearer, but of course opinions differ on that.
Yes there are true formal watches out there in the classic sense (and the porto, nor the jlc hometime is one of them, although I would classify the jlc ultrathin as a classic formal watch), that are only meant for a formal occasion, but those are not the watches that us relatively young people are interested in at the moment I guess.
To sum things up, I'm no advocate of dressing up just because someone is wearing a 5k+ watch, I do however think a lot of people buy a watch that doesn't really fit their clothing style (independent of the price of the watch)...

Can I dress like a slob and drive my $70k BMW? Or is that in poor taste?

Thinly veiled brag?

Are you really so surprised in a thread discussing what is, in essence, male jewelry, discussion of overall style and looks get discussed?

Actually, no it's not a brag, I don't even own a car at all.

As for surprise, no, I'm not surprised.

got a new strap for my radiomir base...supposed to be a dressy watch but it's my daily beater. i might put a vintage tang strap to the portuguese to dress it down also.
