I'm looking at purchasing a new watch. Something less than $500. Over the last like ten years, I've been wearing Swatches. I'm looking for something other than Swatch.

I've been looking at some of the Tissot T-Race and PRC series watches. Anyone own a Tissot from either series?

Middle pic looks haaaht imo. Too big for me and not really a style that suits me but I think it's a sexy spin on a Chronomat.

As for height, I haven't seen that spec yet but yea it's probably at least 16mm.

I think the juxtaposition of the classic roman numerals with the dystopian futurism of the rollerball numbers is perfect for the times. Because the future will be horribly violent and we'll all end up with roman-era-type standards of living after the government is through destroying the economy. Might as well go out in a baroque orgy of decadence!

On a whim, my uncle just gifted me a watch. I googled around a little and from what I found, it resembles Orient Star's Retro Future line. However, the Orient logo is different on mine. Maybe it's older. Any of you Japan watch guys (read PVN) have any info here? On the back, it states that it uses 23-jewel 46S50 movement.

Looks like the CFH01001D. Dunno much about it myself, but orient is a very, very solid company. Their watches will generally be of a higher quality than you would expect for the price.

Seiko has a controlling interest IIRC, but the company is run independently.

Not a fan of the big watches, but it's what the "cool" kids buy nowadays. Most of them are overpriced quartz watches if you ask me.
A bit more expensive, but if you want a big watch, I would go for a U-Boat. (edit: just saw that the cheaper Uboats are quartz, so forget what I said, go for a TW Steel if you want something a step up from the $20 oversized watches)

Oh and regarding that Breitling, I saw a lot of ads for it and it looked great in the ads, too bad it's such a let down in hands on pictures.

So I am unabashedly in with toywatch http://www.toywatchusa.com

Easy to find and cheap too. Certainly goes against how most people in this thread feel about watches, but I'm probably gonna pick one up very soon.

I'd be happy to help, but my idea of 'inexpensive' might be different than yours. Want to give us a price range?

Yeah I think most people in this thread would not pay $100+ for a plastic quartz watch.

I really doubt such a watch exists. I think Tissot and Hamilton have quartz moonphases in that range.

They're out there, not a lot of lookers though, they all try and look expensive and bougie as possible. These are all under 200, there's a Jacques Lemans model that goes for 1k, but theres nothing in between it seems, all super cheap stuff or 1k+ really

Any suggestions for a chunky style casual watch similar to this in the $500 range?

vabene is an "italian" version of the same watch. Its the same thing only it doesn't have toy watch on it instead it has "vabene" and usually an italian flag.

45mm, so it's on the big side, but I love it. It's on my short list.

Probably looking at $1100USD.
Amazon has this for $970 through a store called IcedTime.

Does purchasing through Amazon provide any extra security, in terms of authenticity and warranty, etc.?

There are a lot of "homage" royal oaks out there, mostly quartz, ranging from $75 to $750. I think croton makes a decent piece on the cheaper end. Many of the more expensive ($500+) homages are getting sued (I believe Panerai is actually responsible for getting a lot of these guys closed down).

There are also some really, really nice replicas in the $500 range if you know where to look.

This should get you started: http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthr...ight=Stuhrling
