I remember around 2006 I think, walking into Excalibur from the back lot, and Louie who I think was doing a daily/weekly show was walking out and smoking a cigarette, and he looked the most depressed I have ever seen anyone.

Louie had a tough life.

Both Meatloaf and Louie were large, bigger-than-life characters who never seemed to have a bad word to say about anyone. Such kind, gentle souls.

I was a freshman in high school when Bat Out Of Hell came out, and the songs and singing and operatic music and just damn funny stuff on there…wow. It showed my that rock could be plain fun.Love that album to this day.

Oh, and my high school had booked him to play a dance when he was a nobody, because of the funny name. but in between the booking and the actual dance, the album comes out and is a smash. He’s on SNL and famous - and he still honors his commitment to play our stupid school dance lol. It was amazing.

Louie Anderson was always funny. If you’ve never seen Baskets, holy crap are you in for a treat. He was actually blackmailed for a time by people who threatened to out him as gay…and he was like, screw you, I’ll out myself and pressed charges against those *******s.

RIP to them both. The world is a slightly less-interesting place without them.

I didn't grow up listening to rock music, Bat out of Hell 1 and 2 were among the first albums I truly latched onto. Both of them are albums that got no skips when I listened to them. I didn't like Dashboard that much, but I think that was more of a function of how darn good Bat 1 was, not the quality of that song itself. Maybe a bit too long, so I wanted to move on quickly.

Maybe Meat Loaf isn't up there with full legendary status like many other rockers, but he was someone who, you just knew from listening to his music, was a person with a great heart and an amazing story. You don't write that stuff in a vacuum. Also, he was great in Rocky Horror.

Nice, Dom. I love Bat Out Of Hell, too, despite many telling me I shouldn't.

Meatloaf on “I would do anything for love”

“You read that it's bigger than life, but it's not," he said. "It's as big as life, not bigger, because life is huge. Life is very dramatic at all times.”

He was a great performer, but he didn't write those songs. Jim Steinman did, who passed away a few years ago.

Meat Loaf was a great actor in Fight Club, the highlight of the movie for me.

Always enjoyed his role in Spinal Tap when I came across that part. Old enough to remember WKRP, liked that show in my youth.

Johnny Fever was a great character, and Hesseman was always a pro. I remember he did a good job on a House episode a few years back.

Yep. Always liked Bailey Quarters too. Was a fun show all around.

It's not Thanksgiving time, but I think those of us of that age remember the turkeys.

RIP Hessman but that was from a time when I didn’t watch a TV except for NFL, MLB or NBA…..or a race, horse or auto.

I remember his little improv scene from Billy Jack.
