Seems like Darryl made the right choice. After leading his high school team to the state championship his high school coach called him the best player he'd ever seen and being drafted by the 76's in the first round ( fifth pick ) might have been too much incentive to say no to a pro contract. Just a year earlier Moses Malone had entered the pro ranks straight from high school and no doubt Darryl felt he also had the tools to take it to the next level. Of course being 6'11" didn't hinder his quest to be a monster in the paint either.

The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat was an important book for me and helped (along with The Three Pound Universe) send me on to reading a bunch of brain science/neurology books. I've read four of his books and my wife just checked out his biography and is reading that currently. I wasn't going to read it, as I'm not really that into biographies.

RIP.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Wes Craven movie, but his Freddie character inspired the genius of Scary Terry in Rick and Morty's epic Lawnmower Dog episode.

Scream was pretty "groundbreaking" at the time. The horror film genre had been pretty dead or stagnant for some time as Scream came out and was incredibly refreshing and seamlessly mixed humor with horror in a way I hadn't ever seen before. You should at least watch that one.

Wes Craven's genius was in marketing and low-budget filmmaking. I got to meet twice back in the early 90s. Nice guy. RIP.

My favorite Dean Jones' Disney movie was Blackbeard's Ghost. Peter Ustinov played the ghost, and I think Suzanne Pleshette was Dean's love interest. It seemed charming as hell at the time, but I'd hate to try to rewatch it as an adult.

edit: damn, I may have undersold it. 6.8 on imdb with several positive reviews.

The blonde chick on F Troop died, Melody Patterson. Evidently she was married to Hawaii Five-O's James MacArthur for a while. He's dead too btw.

Greatest American actor of the 20th century? Some say Marlon Brando, some say Larry Storch. I'm not going to start a debate; we are here to mourn Wrangler Jane.

Man, I loved that show when I was a kid. We had a tall jungle gym thing in our backyard and we'd always try to recreate the cannon knocking the tower down, and spill out onto either snow or a pile of leaves.

There's absolutely no way in this modern era that a sitcom of that nature would ever make the airways with the current " PC " climate. All of the Hekawi tribe Indians were portrayed mostly by Yiddish comedians ( no native Americans ever played those roles ).
And how did they come up with Hekawi Indian tribe ? Let's ask the Chief Wild Eagle to explain how the tribe got its name: "Many moons ago, tribe leave Massachusetts because Pilgrims ruin neighborhood! Tribe travel west, over stream, over river, over mountain, over river, over stream! Then come big day... tribe fall over cliff. That when Hekawi get name. Medicine man say to my ancestor, "I think we lost. Where the heck are we?"
If that doesn't bring a chuckle to your kisser, then how about the " Fugawi tribe ? " That was the original name of the tribe until the censors got ahold of the script.
