Just making sure every tribe gets proper credit for playing Native Americans.

Ben Frommer, probably Yiddish, played a recurring part as Smokey Bear. James Patrick O'Malley, of the Irish tribe, played Medicine Man.

We need a Lounge thread solely devoted to great old sitcoms like F Troop. I can talk about those old shows forever. Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, all the classics.

Beverly Hillbillies and The Munsters are the two I liked the most back in the day. (the 70's)

Speaking of old sitcoms and old sitcom actors...

RIP Martin Milner of Route 66 and Adam-12 fame. He was 83.

RIP Judy Carne of Laugh In fame. Laugh In was truly a phenomenon at its time if you are old enough to remember

Missed it by that much.

Speaking of which, I loved Get Smart.

Good old Martin Milner. I remember he was in Sweet Smell of Success too.

Joaquin Andujar died the other day, good pitcher for those 80s Cardinal teams that won a lot. He was a total head case but a pretty nice guy by all indications. He used to refer to himself as "one crazy Dominican."

He was ever so slightly before my time as a cards fan but I heard a lot about him.

He was famous for being thrown out of a World Series game by the umpire who had screwed the Cards the day before. Perhaps one of the most egregious World Series calls made outside of Yankee Stadium.

Moses Malone died, damn. Criminally underrated as legendary centers go. He'd plant that big butt and get every offensive rebound he wanted. 3-time MVP

Frank D. Gilroy, dead at 89, wrote The Subject Was Roses. Brought Paula Fox's Desperate Characters to the screen. He was a master of the spare and sparse and never achieved the celebrity he wanted.

Is he really underrated? I remember him rebounding at or above Russell's level.

Yes, I believe he's very underrated. This CBS Sports piece calls him "arguably the most underrated player of all time." http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-...malones-career

People will talk endlessly about Russell, Chamberlain, Jabbar, even Olajuwon way before they'll even mention Malone's name. I suspect a lot of it has to do with Malone's private nature, that he rarely opened up to the media.

Malone was a scorer too, unlike Russell. He averaged 25 pts. and 14 rebounds every year for 8 straight years, as that article mentions.

Moses is criminally underrated. Guy was a beast. A 3 time MVP. He mentored 2 of the best in Charles and Hakeem.

I guess it's just perspective. Malone played at a time when I closely followed the NBA, so I think of him as a great, as do all the people I hang with. Plus I don't spend a lot of time watching ESPN, so I don't know what the current generation of pundits think of him. It just seemed amazing to me that someone could regard him as less.

But then again, I got to see Chamberlin play a few times as a kid, and all I remember are his hilarious -- and usually futile -- attempts to make free throws.

Dr J is really the only big name in pop culture from the era between Russell/Chamberlain and Magic/Bird.

What about Lew Alcindor?

Honestly forgot Kareem was from that era as well because he was still around playing with Magic.

And speaking of deaths and Lew Alcindor and other NBA greats: RIP the hook shot. I haven't seen one in the NBA for a long while. The beauty of a great smooth hook shot in front of the basket is hard to beat. That it has died on the vine is a huge loss to the NBA. Game changed I know. Didn't old Kareem have his 'skyhook'. Last year I was watching a game and some show boy did a classic hook shot and I thought, bring that back to the game.

I've always wondered about that. Any 7 footer that develops one would go from good or average to great. I know its not an easy shot to perfect but it seems worth the effort.

Despite the negative connotations of having Moses portrayed by Bill Cosby, Moses is indeed a kickass name. In fact, it is one of the kickassiest.

I love the hook. Walton had a modified "push-hook" combo move, but the last real practitioner was Kareem. Of course, the master was Bill "The Hill" McGill. McGill died last year after a tough life. RIP Bill.
