Peart was a pusher. He pushed the drum sticks. He was heavy handed. Musically speaking he was horrid. His ideas and phrasing were lumbering. His bass drumming was worse.
He is not in the same equation as a Buddy Rich.
you thought today was the right time to put forth your crappy opinion, huh?
The English philosopher Roger Scruton died Sunday. I don't know much about philosophy but Scruton seems to have been a fairly important cultural figure. One of those conservative types, the ones ya gotta watch out for.
1) Mitch Mitchell
2) Ginger Baker
3) Mel Taylor
4) Keith Moon
5) Jack Bruce (Yeah yeah yeah, I know he wasn't a drummer, but he did as much, or more, with the beat as the above four. Ginger Baker is reputed to have pulled a knife on him during a performance, and I think I know why.)

RIP drummers everywhere.
love this list, but i would add Tony Williams somewhere and remove Bruce. Williams is also dead as of February 23, 1997.
this video is the first of a three part series, skip the second one if you're expecting to hear music.
Barry Tuckwell was a model for me when young. While no drummer he was the preeminent French horn player, maybe of all time. Mozart’s four horn quartets is a good place to start https://www.washingtonpost.com/local...754_story.html
