There are a few songs that are tied to scenes in movies for me. "Stuck in the middle with you" will always remind me of that ear scene in Resevoir Dogs. "American girl" will always remind me of that girl driving in Silence of the lambs.

Yeah, I'd rank that as my favorite Petty song.

"I Need to Know" always seemed to stick with me after listening to it. Not 1 second wasted in the 2:23 it takes.

Tom was opening the Viper Room. Stan Lynch, the drummer, was in Florida and didn't want to go to LA for one night to play. Tom said, "The hell with him. Let's call Ringo."

Stevie Nicks really wanted to join The Heartbreakers. Apparently, Tom simply said: 'Sorry, no girls allowed in The Heartbreakers.' She was devastated. I need to rewatch Runnin' Down A Dream....

This sucks

RIP Ralphie May

Only 45 but surprised he made it that far as he wasn't exactly the picture of health. He was a funny guy though and his standup was solid.

his ex-wife posted this yesterday....not accusing, just suggesting you might not want to close the case just yet.

The great Connie Hawkins died, playground legend and ABA star who prefigured Dr. J in his play. He was banned from the NBA for several years because of a gambling scandal in college, somewhat unjustly iirc. By the time the NBA lifted his ban his skills were somewhat diminished.

YA Tittle died, great Giants qb in the early 60s and the 49ers before that. He was old and they thought he was washed-up by then but he killed. Rocked the horseshoe bald look like nobody's business, tough old bastard, old school.

RIP YA Tittle. He was a little before my time but he was the subject of one of the greatest sports photos ever taken.

Growing up in Rhode Island, I became a Giants fan because the games were televised here. Remember him well even though I was a youngster in the pre-AFL days.

My dad was a huge Johnny Unitas fan, but he also liked Tittle quite a bit and spoke of him often.

Richard Wilbur, poet, dead at age 96, at Belmont, Massachusetts. I met Mr. Wilbur sometime in the late 1960's (as a result of taking creative writing courses). He seemed a kind and gentle man with patience and concern for students.

Richard Wilbur gave a reading in our poetry series named after Galway Kinnell, a RI born poet, about ten years ago. He was gracious and charming.

Gord Downie, 53 of The Tragically Hip.

An amazing songwriter and performer, and one who gave this American a sense of what it meant to be Canadian. A true loss.

There is a documentary entitled 'long time running' that is airing on ctv tonight at 8 p.m.

It was shown initially at the Toronto film fest. , and should be a nice tribute to a great Canadian.
