What if you found out everything you had always thought was wrong? What if you found out that high school was *it*?

Remember how it was on your last day of school. You were finally rid of it. Never again would you be forced to deal with all those idiot teachers and students.

But then, let's say, you found out there was evil in the world, but it could never mach the evil you had witnessed in high school. And you found out there were plenty of hot babes in the world, but they would never be as hot as the ones you longed for in high school. And that you would find acts of kindness and loyalty in the world, but they would never equal the breathtaking acts of kindness and loyalty you saw as a teen.

And all the evil and hotness and kindness and loyalty you saw in school was so unassuming and so unaffected and so naturally out in the open that nothing else could match it.

And suppose you knew that your high school sweetheart would never grow old -- because she was dead.

And say that you asked your friends Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe about the greatest case they had ever worked on, and they both responded that it had been in high school, and that everything since then had been merely marking time.

The only way you could find out about it would be to watch Brick, easily the greatest film of the millennium, and, for that matter, one of the greatest of all time.

This movie is stunningly beautiful and full of profound ideas. It made a huge impact on me when I watched it, like a great movie can do sometimes. Great to be reminded how precious and strange this life we've been given can be, even in the very worst of circumstances.
this is the scariest movie ive ever seen.

after seeing it i made everyone in my family swear to pull the plug if i was ever in a non-responsive vegetative state.

im a huge fan of westerns and this is one of the greatest westerns ever.

it has everything, a great cast, superb writing, comedy, action, and out of this world visuals.

i feel like this may have flown under the radar for a lot of people and if you haven't seen it you need to asap.

Spoiler:

and the fear and loathing homage is absolutely brilliant.

Spoiler:

for my next pick i had a lot of trouble deciding between 3 films by this director.

i love love love all 3 of them so much and each one would be more than worthy of a selection but in the end i went with the one that combined the most heart with also starring one of my fav actors.

another movie i feel like never got enough love and can't recommend highly enough.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

jemaine clement is just brilliant in everything hes in and this character really shows off his talents perfectly.

he captures the total insecurity being hidden by overbearing aggressive arrogant personality and his chemistry with loren horsley is fantastic.

the love story is actually quite tender beneath all the absurdity and loren more then holds her own in every scene with jemaine which is no small feat.

this is basically the film napoleon dynamite desperately wanted to be.

children of men
o brother where art thou
TAOJJBTCRF
sideways
sexy beast
rango
eagle vs shark

no pretension, not even a hint of hipster, just great mainstream movies.
His is the only list that you could rattle off when down the pub and not be instantly labelled "a douche"
Haha, I'm not even sure if I should be offended or not! I'm basically just taking movies that I could watch whenever it's on. I think to myself, "If this was on right now, would I watch it?" And if the answer to that is "no", then I pick something else.

I definitely have some hipster douche movies on my list, though. I may get to them at some point...

appreciating a great film does not make one a douche. Saying that a great film is the only worthwhile kind of film does make one a douche.
