Is it a no no because of the lack of **** to do? Or does it suck safety wise? Thanks a ton, I really appreciate your input.

I don't know much about the safety of the area, but as far as I know, it's not an unsafe neighborhood. It's the fact that aside from high-rise condos, there's just not much there at all.

Going to Girl and the Goat tonight. I'm pretty pumped for this as my girlfriend and I have been waiting for about 3 months for a table. Neither of us are really foodies per se but we do love good food and good drinks so this should be a lot of fun. I've heard that it's actually a pretty affordable experience as long as you don't go overboard with drinks.

I've only been to Paris Club out of the ones you mentioned. It was crowded for a Wednesday night, cool atmosphere but also very loud. Didn't eat downstairs but the food is supposed to be good. I can see it being a hard place to talk to girls but it was fun.

We also spent a good amount of time on Hubbard St. But I don't recall the Inn...probably because there are so many other bars in the area

Is domu your favorite site to check for places to rent?

$1,700 for 1BR + Parking in River North seems like it'd be hard to find. Hope I'm wrong

I live near Clark and Fullerton now. Yelp doesn't show too many great restaurants on Clark, even though it seems like an awesome street. any hidden gems to recommend? just looking for a solid go-to lunch place but any type of rec is good.

What type of food and how far are you willing to walk?

B-Pig near Fullerton / Halsted is really good though their service is meh. Orange Cafe also has a great menu for brunch.

The Mexican place ~2400 N Lincoln is really good too.

The best way to find an apartment is still craigslist, imo. Domu is very good, too. I'd also recommend padmapper, which is kind of a listing aggregator.

I think it depends on what you're looking for in a community. I'm in the northern-most part of the "South Loop"; I live in Printer's Row and absolutely love it. I agree, it definitely doesn't have the nightlife of the north side or Bucktown/Wicker Park, but it also doesn't have the congestion either.

I can get to virtually anywhere in the city in no time, because I'm a 5 minute walk from the blue line, red line, brown line, or purple line. I can also be on the Dan Ryan, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Stevenson, or LSD within 2 minutes. If you work downtown, walking to work everyday can't be beat.

As Cosines said, there are grocery stores aplenty (Trader Joe's, Jewel, Whole Foods, Dominicks) and the dining/bar scene is improving at a pretty quick pace (Acadia, City Tavern, Square One). Supposedly they have a bunch of retailers lined up for when the revamp of the Roosevelt Collection is complete, so that has the potential to spice things up a bit down here as well. As is, it's great having a quality theater within walking distance.

I'm also 32 with a fiance, so I can certainly understand that my need for drunken 4am nights has waned. Anyway, just wanted to point out there are certainly some positive things going on down here, and depending on a person's priorities, this could be the perfect spot in the city.

We're looking at a bunch of slots tomorrow. 1720 S. Michigan (2 units), 1516 S. Wabash, 221 e. cullerton. These are just some that we were able to get showings for tomorrow. We are kind of home-bodies, we do eat out but have no issue having a small amount of travel to get there. We also aren't big drinkers so the bar scene really makes no difference for us. Our priorities are just being in a quiet clean neighborhood, and in a nicer/newer apartment.

Sounds like the south loop/ Printers Row is pretty perfect for you tbh

Or some brown line area I have no personal experience with

Perennial Virant is fairly close - only been there once but it was pretty awesome

As for above - rockit bar is pretty awful unless you're into awful bars, in which case it's probably great

Thanks for those posts.

I've pretty much had the same experiences on Craigslist. The same posts over and over again and it is difficult to filter thru the muck.

Perennial Virant is pretty amazing. I've also heard good things (though I haven't been there yet) about the J Parker, a rooftop bar that just opened on top of Hotel Lincoln. Their beverage director, Erin Hayes, is also in charge of the Perennial Virant bar.
