Yeah I read a couple of stories out of that last night, good stuff. I'm also reading stories from The Outlaw Album by Daniel Woodrell and enjoying the hell out of that.

Thinking, Fast and Slow

Only about 1/5th done but I'm liking it a lot so far. Anyone who likes thinking/learning about thinking will like this book.

Mrs. accobra_kid and I are planning our honeymoon. Italy (in particular Naples and the Amalfi Coast) is likely going to be our destination.

She was shocked when I answered that I hadn't read (or seen the film adaption) Under the Tuscan Sun, by Frances Mayes. Can anyone comment if this will be a worthwhile read?

I would be open to other book recommendations about life in Italy, as my exposure to Italian culture is limited beyond watching The Sopranos in its entirety three times.

I read it like 20 years ago or something, but I remember enjoying it. Naples is awesome. You will have a great time.

I was just going to post about this in BFI. It's really good for anyone interested in decision making. And Part 5 should be read by everyone imo.

Currently reading a Short History of Nearly Everything. Pretty good so far.

Another +1 for this.

I really enjoyed this.

Has anyone read anything else by Bryson? Thinking I might want to check out some of his other books but not really sure where to start or if I even should?

I read A Walk in the Woods about hiking the Appalachian Trail. It's very funny, he and his partner are completely unsuited to hiking in general and their attempting such a long hike was clearly a bad idea.

Bryson isn't going to blow your mind with amazing prose but he's a good workmanlike writer.

A Walk in the Woods is a good book about his hike of the Appalachian trail.
I also read "The Lost Continent" which is about his travels around small cities in the US. It was great.

I made it through all of them and I'm not dead yet. What I liked best about the series was when Churchill writes about the British failures during the war. Clearly he is writing to shape history and his legacy. Singapore, Crete, Dieppe, and Operation Market Garden are fascinating spins on the events. He is no historian, but that isn't the point.

Solo,

Kurtz's final words, "The horror, the horror," become in Marlow's version "He died with your name on his lips." Not really a lie, perhaps?

Been reading The Walking Dead series. Up to book nine, which puts me far ahead of the TV show.

So I guess it sounds like pretty much anything by Bryson will at least be entertaining.

I assume you mean Vol. 9 since the last "Book" that has come out was Book 7.
I really liked the first 8 volumes, but lately, I've been tired of the series. The latest volume was Vol. 15 and I am not excited about the series not ending.

Definitely comic book crack.

Also reading Marjorie Garber's Shakespeare After All, which examines each of the plays, to retain my high-falutin street cred.

Just finished Daisy Miller. That was so much less depression-inducing than Beast in the Jungle was.

I liked Daisy Miller and, as usual, I'm looking forward to reading some supplemental material now.
