Batman killed her career dead. Whether she got a bit chunky or the costume wasn't flattering, the combination of "she's fat" and "that movie stunk to high heaven" probably crushed her opportunities for many years.

It's funny, but I'd almost have Vin Diesel on both sides; Triple X and Fast and Furious and he seemed to be poised to be the next big action star. Then bailed on both sequels to do things like The Pacifier and nearly killed both franchises.

But then realized all his bad choices and jumped right back to FnF and is huge again. Even so, basically all he's been in for the last few years is FnF movies. Feel like he could have been bigger, but am a little surprised he didn't kill his own career first.

I had a major thing Diane Franklin after seeing Better off Dead.

Monique Junot: I figured if we had nothing to say to each other he would get bored; go away. But instead he uses it as an excuse to put his testicles all over me.
Lane Myer: Excuse me?
Monique Junot: You know, like octopus? Testicles?
Lane Myer: Ohhhh. Tentacles. N-T. Tentacles; big Difference.

This doesn't really fit the thread but I've always wondered what kind of a career Phoebe Cates would have had if she didn't quit Hollywood to focus on family life.

I really liked Anniversary Party, and the scene with Cates explaining how she gave up her career to let Kevin Kline pursue his is particularly resonant, and a little bit heartbreaking.

I haven't read any of the other responses but I would guess that this would be the 20th time that Kevin Bacon has been mentioned in this thread.

After I watched Martha Marcy May Marlene I thought for sure that Elizabeth Olsen would be a star. She's beautiful, photographs well and is highly talented. She's still working but she's being underutilized.

I'm always rooting for Ben Mendelsohn but it appears he is stuck in character actor roles.

Saw high fidelity last night. Was thinking. Not sure Cusack really sold out as much as he has consistently taken every role he is offered and those aren't as good as they once were.

Give her time imo. Her career keeps getting bigger and bigger. After May 1, she will be a household name.

But yes, his work in Hook, Awakenings, and Good Will Hunting blow away any comedy stuff he did in film. His comedy persona was hard to mold into a 90 minute film I think.
Wow, nobody has mentioned Roxanne.

Elizabeth Olsen definitely is more intriguing to me than her twin billionaire sisters. First I saw of her was that movie Silent House or whatever where she walked around for 90 minutes with the camera showing her cleavage.

Kinda surprised Eliza Dushku hasn't got some better roles. I can see she might struggle with the serious dramatic but the rest she's got. Dynamic screen presence, uber gorgeous and funny.

Eliza made me think of 2 other actresses from the same time frame.

I thought Neve Campbell and Ali Larter would have had huge careers by now. Both have been in some big movies but I thought they'd be major stars.

"Dollhouse" started out as an Eliza Dushku vehicle to showcase her range. Then they realized she didn't actually have any range and made it into an ensemble drama. She was easily the worst actor on the show.

I never found her to be very good, even at roles within her limited wheelhouse. She's certainly no Vin Diesel

News/ Gayheart Sentenced for Manslaughter

The visibly shaken actress, who was facing up to a year in county jail, pleaded no contest in a Los Angeles courtroom Tuesday to a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge.

In exchange for her plea, she was sentenced to three years' probation, a one-year suspension of her license, a $2,800 fine and a whopping 750 hours of community service. She was also ordered to make a public-service announcement.

The 29-year-old former Noxzema Girl, accompanied to the courthouse by her attorney, Harland Braun, and her fiancé, Rush Hour director Brett Ratner, nodded her head somberly as the judge spoke to her. Several times during the hearing she wiped tears from her eyes.

While Gayheart entered and exited without speaking to reporters, Braun held an impromptu press conference outside the courthouse, where he described how devastated his client was.

"It was the worst thing that could ever have happenend to her, killing a child," the lawyer said. "She feels terrible."

He said she will likely perform her community service by addressing schoolchildren, parents and motorists on proper street-crossing safety and driving awareness. Her PSA will also pick up that theme.

"They're thinking about a video that really highlights the dangers of jaywalking, of drivers who don't stop when other cars have stopped, [and] parents who don't properly educate their children," said Braun, who added that the Gayheart did not catch any breaks from the judge because of her celebrity.

The ex-Beverly Hills, 90210 actress was cruising through Hollywood on June 13 in a friend's '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she struck 9-year-old Jorge Cruz Jr. as he jaywalked across the street.

While several cars stopped to let him go, Gayheart allegedly swerved around the traffic and into a two-way left-turn lane, hitting the boy. The child was taken to L.A.'s Children's Hospital where he died the next day.

Police interviewed Gayheart at the scene of the accident, but did not arrest her because she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. After investigating the case, the Los Angeles City Attorney decided to file the manslaughter charge against Gayheart in October.

The boy's parents, Jorge Cruz and Silvia Martinez, filed a wrongful-death lawsuit August 6 against Gayheart, citing her negligence as the reason for their son's death. Braun told reporters outside the courtroom that Gayheart was fully insured and he believed the civil suit would be settled without going to trial.

Gayheart, who paid for Cruz's hospital and funeral expenses, has also offered to pay for grief counseling for the parents, Braun added.

The Kentucky-born Gayheart first found fame doing ads as the "fresh-faced" Noxzema Girl, before turning to acting. She played Luke Perry's wife on Beverly Hills, 90210, had a role in the short-lived ABC series Wasteland and starred in such teen flicks as Urban Legend, Scream 2 and 1999's Jawbreaker.

She's due back in court March 27 for a progress report.

I gotta be honest, Vin Diesel, Eliza Dushku and Rebecca Gayheart weren't exactly what I had in mind when originally making the thread.

Vin Diesel especially, since I would consider him a pretty big star with a pretty remarkable career, even if he does nothing but reprise his roles as Riddick and Dom over and over from here on out.

On an unrelated note, a few years ago I was randomly flicking across cable channels and came upon this sci fi series show called Being Human (which was ok), which had this actress that I immediately fell in love with named Meaghan Rath. Here is a pic of her.

Anyways, I have been semi-watching her career to see if it ever really took off. Hasn't really yet, which is a shame IMO, because I thought she was so attractive and ready to be a star (in my mind at least).

I'm a little surprised Matthew Perry's movie career never really got off the ground. I thought he was hilarious as the fancy frontiersman (wat?) Leslie Edwards inAlmost Heroes, opposite Chris Farley. He also did fine in the Rom-Com role in Fools Rush In, but that was just a poorly made film. Hollywood gave him like a 5 year trial then he's gone back to television, with Studio 60, Go On, then The Odd Couple. Maybe he found it tough to get big roles in film due to his substance abuse issues. I know Farley couldn't get insured by the end of his career.

I though these 2 were fantastic together. I think someone (Dom?) in this forum knew someone or maybe went on a date with that girl in the water. I seem to remember someone like 4 years ago saying such. Lucky, she was beautiful. She probably should have had a career.

???

I dated a gal who was in john Candy's last film, some comedy western I can't remember the name of...Westward Ho, maybe? She was also in Speed. We dated for a short time. I also went on a couple dates with another actress who was in True Romance and then later, starred in the Mathew Broderick Godzilla. But that was after we knew each other.

Mathew Perry is pretty one-note, imo. Not an actor with a whole lot of range.

I must not have been clear. I was saying Vin Diesel doesn't belong in this thread. He has had a career in proportion to his talent. He doesn't have a lot of range, but he is very good at what he does. He's perfect for Dom/Riddick.

The movie was Wagons East

Matthew Perry sans Friends had no career. Before and after Friends he had a bunch of failed TV projects and I have to assume he just luckboxed with Friends which if you watch it these days is a horrible show in most respects,
