I liked him in his small role on the TV show Smallville.

Get the book. The whole thing is like that, fantastic anecdote after fantastic anecdote. I'm going to reread it again today

Tbf, Pryor only had two and they were really early.

I guess Good Morning, Vietnam comes closest, but it still feels like the improv is forced. The next is The Best of Times and he was way against type. Does anyone remember Cadillac Man? Was it even supposed to be a comedy?
Williams was way better as a dramatic actor than a comedic one. One Hour Photo, Insomniac, World's Greatest Dad, and Good Will Hunting are way better than any of the slapstick things he does great in standup but that translate as well to the big screen.

Don't forget "Awakenings".

Just watched Moonstruck and Adaptation again and thought about your comment. Nicolas Cage belongs on this list for me. There was a time when I thought holy crap, this guy can act. And the thing is, he can! But for the most part he has turned into one hell of a wasted talent.

1 out of every 8 Cage movies are worthwhile.

Cusack and Cage don't belong in this thread at all. They were both big stars for a long time who sold out and/or lost their way, but remain pretty big stars. Seeing the Rush thing in the other thread did remind me of Jason Patric, though. He seemed destined, had multiple breakthrough opportunities, and it just never happened. Kinda like Billy Crudup.

lol "sold out."

Actors have to work. They want to work. Great roles are few and far between. I always thought it was funny people blamed Cage or Cusak or whoever for ****ty movies. It's their job to act. So they act. Good movies, bad movies, whatever. And Cage really needed the money.

One guy I thought should've been huge was Aiden Quinn. Guy looked like a movie star and he could act.

Yeah, Quinn was supposed to be the next James Dean. For real, people called him that after Reckless. I'm glad he's at least the lead in the underrated Avalon, though.

And selling out is a real thing. You don't have to choose to do Michael Bay and Joel Schumacher crapfests. And I'm not even hating on Cage. Like BigPoppa said, he's still good every now and then. Adaptation was after all those action films, and then he was fine in The Weather Man, Lord of War, and especially in the recent Joe, he was amazing. But I miss his Raising Arizona, Birdy, Wild at Heart, and Vampire's Kiss days with a passion.

didnt this guy make like one mega per two and a half men episode ?

Mathew Broderick was never in Two and Half Men.

Older Broderick at least has Election, You Can Count on Me, and Margaret on his resume. The transition from teen/young 20-somethings into adult roles is tough for a lot of actors and actresses.

On a not completely unrated note, anyone remember Alison Lohman? She had a run of White Oleander, Matchstick Men, and Big Fish where she had so much beauty and magnetism. But never broke through after that. Drag Me to Hell is great, though.

I loved Alison Lohman in all three of those movies. Beauty and magnetism is right. Just a shame that her big films were critically successful but didn't make any money.

I think I remember reading she had purposely cut back on acting or something...

That thought occurred to me, and I hope it's true. I checked her wikipedia hoping to see something like she got married and had a kid around the same time she disappeared, but I saw a several year gap between her last critical hit and when she decided to have a family, so I wondered instead if she chose to have a family as a new focus in the wake of a diminishing career.

Edit: I did find a Pajiba article on her, but they too are perplexed.

Oops, never mind. It does look like she quit to focus on her family. The timing seemed strange to me, but now I get it. She got married around the time her last film released, and they kept the birth of their first child a secret until fifteen months later. Mystery (seemingly) solved.

Yes, I don't think that most people realize that just having any kind of regular work puts you in the top fraction of 1% of career success for an actor.

Jason Patric? That guy sucked. lol.

Remember that girl Kerri Green from The Goonies/Summer Rental/Lucas? She had like 3 films in a 1 year period (and Spielberg discovered her) and then disappeared completely. I went to type her name into IMDB and it autocorrected to Kerry (sp) Green. lol. Not that she was a good actor but man that girl came and went. She was like the William Zabka of the females.

How about that Haley Joel Osment? Eh? Eh???

...eh?

I saw him recently in Kevin Smith's latest film Tusk. Oh how the mighty child star has fallen. But the dude can still act! I liked him in Secondhand Lions, too.

Broderick was semi blacklisted for a number of years after he killed those two women in Ireland.

Rush and the locker room monologue in Your Friends and Neighbors say you're wrong!

And I remember Kerri Green from that Charlie Sheen movie. She was cute, but not much else. Speaking of 80s cuties, anyone remember Diane Franklin?

Yeah this seems like a fairly relevant detail. You can't just kill people.
