I thought The Sweet Hereafter was a pretty good movie, but don't understand all the hype about it. and the Chunking Express is just not my cup of tea.

and just skip bonsaltron and move on.... imo ....

Did we ever come to a decision on time limits? I don't really care what they are, but it would be good to know so that we can abide by something. I was under the assumption that we were doing 6 hours on weekdays and 12 hours on weekends, which is why Vix skipped bonsaltron. I didn't PM Valar, but I will if we confirm to skip bonsaltron.

I almost took sweet hereafter with my second. Was between that and thin red line.

The Thin Red Line was a great pick. Love that movie.

Yeah, I'm gonna rewatch it soon I think, was too young to really appreciate it when I first saw it. I love everything else by Malick now, though, so I'll just say great pick in advance.

imo2 one of the best performances on the decade

...Mr. Brown? That's little too close to Mr. Sh*t...

I love Reservoir Dogs but haven`t had it on my list, because I knew I wouldn`t get it anyway.

From the movie, you can`t really tell.

Schindler's List - (1993, Steven Spielberg)

Although this is a great film, I hesitated before taking it. It's hard to do a writeup since can't remember it that well. I've only seen it once and I don't want to rewatch it. I can't remember the details I can only remember how it made me feel. It's powerful and profoundly sad. It's a window into one of the darkest moments in human history. It could only be a true story--fiction has to believable, and who could believe that humans perpetrated what they did in Nazi Germany if it didn't actually happen. In a way, the movie is almost too good, it takes you too far into the darkness--you don't want to go back to revisit. A great film.

Schindler`s List is a great pick. I think this is an important movie, that is indeed too well made and too realistic if you can not handle getting drawn into mankinds darkest chapter, I agree with you Valar.

I have watched it >5 times and it doesn`t get less touching. Probably the saddest movie ever made.

why else would Clovis bring it up

anyway Schindler's List is pretty good, but i didn't find it any more sad or touching than Polanski's The Pianist, which went drafted in the 00 draft.

Write up for my round 1 pick:

Braveheart - (1995, Mel Gibson)

This is possibly my favourite film. Although a Scottish story, it was made in Ireland and resonates with the Irish as we grow up listening to nationalistic stories and histories and songs about 800 years of suppression and betrayal at the hands of our more powerful neighbour. It's film that makes me want to go back in time and die for the chance of one day of freedom even though I haven't known a day without it.
It's not exactly historically accurate, rather has many elements that are inspired by true events. I love the harrowing opening sequence where Wallace as a child finds his father killed. The early love story is excellent. The battle scenes have dated a bit, but are still better than most cgi-improved ones. Lots of funny bits to relieve tension whether it's mooning the enemy army or having a mad Irishman as a lieutenant. The one misstep is putting the english queen in the story; the english king edward longshanks and his son are excellently portrayed.
The ending is both sad and a triumph. Frrreeeeedooomm.

Nah SL is far superior.

While I liked it, the problem I had with The Pianist, was that the main character was such and do-nothing. But then, there wasn't a lot he could do under the circumstances, you know? Still...characters that are reactive rather than active just aren't compelling.

i tend to agree with the criticism of SL that it was a pretty manipulative movie
