5/10/20 game was good tonight, but i committed to playing 3/5. it was sooooo hard/painful not to play. but i won 2k. so that's good. sooooo tilting to run so bad at 10/20 and run so good at 3/5.

also, they were having this promo free raffle. they'd pick a name and give that person $200. they gave out 4k like that. but they called about 100 names literally. because if the person wasn't there they'd call another name. it was super tilting to listen to name after name get called and they didn't call my name. there was about 300 names in the raffle.

nice discipline staying with the plan

its super tough to play lower sometimes when you've had some success playing higher

I've been told by smarter people than I to fold those rundowns. Probably truth

Seems standard as is

Speaking of moving up, while i was waiting to play 1/2, i railed a 2/5 game with 2 empty seats. It was playing just like a 1/2 game. I realize this isn't always the case but i sorta regret not sitting down at it.

Totally agree with the wrap getting dirty. I probably check call the turn. On my phone, so I might be misreading, but this looks like a spot where I want to have a bet left for the river if possible. I would need to look at stacks more carefully but my intuition is we need to bet the flop smaller and the turn smallish so we don't get reraised all in or just not bet the turn. The idea being that we are realistically never folding this on the turn, but we still get paid off some when we hit on the river and can save a bet when we missed. ie more EV by having a big bet left behind in the river than just our all in on the turn sd value.

I'm having a very uncharacteristic crisis of confidence. I've had about ~2.5 months of exactly break even (in super soft games) heading into the WSOP and have run into rare bad beats/coolers the past week.

I mean it's dumb because I know intellectually that I'm better than like ~98% of the poker-playing population (where 0.05% are top money-earning pros) but w/e. edges are thin, long-term is long etc.

I've considered giving up poker altogether and becoming a let it ride pro.

Do you think you've changed your game as a result? I ask this because I find myself playing different when I run bad.

Im going through something similar

that second paragraph especially resonates

two months of break even.... oh wow.... dude. come on. man up. two months is nothing. i've had 10 months of losing before. and no, i don't suck. i mean ok fine, maybe i do suck by some people's standards. whatever. but i've been living on nothing but poker for 6 years now. in the last two months i've lost a sickening amount

Long run, which is more +EV, 3/5 or 5/10, and which is more +lifeEV?

im not sure. i started playing this kind of poker less than a year ago. and i was playing 1/2. so i still have a lot to learn. if i can improve just a little bit more i should be able to consistently crush the local 5/10/20 game. and that's gonna be way better than 3/5. i mean MAX income at 3/5 has gotta be around $100 an hour. and i used to make a lot more than that

but for the skill level i have right now, im inconsistent at 5/10/20. the swings are tough. it's discouraging too because a lot of the players have huge leaks. it seems like i should be winning a lot more than i have.

last night the 5/10 players paid me $50 to leave the game. that was nice. it was only cuz a huge fish was waiting to get in the game and no one was leaving. i wanted to stay and play him ldo, but no one was leaving and there were a lot of regs in the game. so i thought it was worth $50 to go play 3/5

So, I went to Derby Lane last night. It's about half the size of Hard Rock. They have 1/1 and the next up is 1/3. I sat at a 1/1 game first while waiting for a 1/3 table to open. It played like a limit game. Everyone just limped every hand. I wasn't there long enough to do much.

The 1/3 game played more like a 2/5 game than a Hard Rock 1/2 game. Much more aggressive.

I was doing quite well for most of the day. Then some really really bad player sat next to me on my right. It went really downhill after that. I lost a big pot when I raised a lot preflop with AK and one player called me. Flop was A62 rainbow and of course I donated to him after he turned over 62. So tilting. Then I'm in the SB and everyone folds to the really bad player on the button. He bets $12, I raise to $35 with KK, he raises I shove and of course he has AA. Not too long after that I raise pre with KQc and get a dream club flop. Bad player calls me down to the river with Ac9d and of course another club shows up. This hand just put me on tilt so I left.

The bad part was I ended up down, but not a lot. The good part is it gives me confidence I can play a more aggressive game.
