Not true for engineering. If anything, a masters degree is required for many areas. E.g. like microelectronics.

I went for 3 years and 18k into debt no degree. Dumbest **** ever. This was after I spent 10k on IT certifications, that at least gave me a trade and got me out of the restaurant business. I stopped going to school because my daughter wanted to live with me instead of her mom so it's all good.

well yes we all know engineers are special little butterflies!

Also I think in the UK and most of Europe it's much more steamlined towards your degree.

At my school you had to take something like , two semesters of history, two semesters of lit, 2 pe classes, accounting class, music class, greek myth class, a couple semesters of foreign language, psychology class, low level science class, math class, economics class.

Some of those you had choices between other things. I think it was either econ or sociology but lol at the entire field of sociology.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you go to uni for maths in the UK you mostly just do maths courses right?

Mark my words, Stephen Colbert will make a huge splash replacing Letterman and will kill Jimmy Fallon's sophomoric hijinx in the ratings. Colbert is an authentic comic genius.

im willing to bet manies that fallon crushes colbert

Colbert gave $800,000 to fund every grant request made by public school teachers in South Carolina today so very good guy as well.

It's not one dimensional, and it's not always the same. There can be professional or vocational elements, there are real generic skills you learn, and more specific skills, there is also the sorting hat function you allude to, but there are also elements related to the sheer love of learning, expanding your intellectual horizons, and transforming your perception, and arguably even to maintaining the quality of civil society. I think investing in 'worthless' education is one of the best things we rich western nations can do with our wealth.

I prefer being referred to as a mf'ing wasp. I'll sting your ass!

I assume a well rounded education is much more preferred than some trade school focused certificate. Plus, we need something to boost the GPA.

I like Fallon's Friday night "Thank you cards" bit...

I'm also entertained with his willingness to splash the alcohol around during his show.

i think things are quite different in the uk - there's much less expectation that anyone outside of the engineers and doctors are taking a vocational degree - you can get most any graduate job with most any degree subject.

I say if you can't beat them, join them!

I assume the Tories are about as "Right Wing" as a US Democrat.

You guys need some Super-Tories!
05-07-2015 , 05:34 PM
I think most of his points in the first link are bull****
05-07-2015 , 05:35 PM
I would guess art majors getting fewer jobs has more to do with them being less smart and less to do with the value of their degree

then again philosophy people think they are the creme of the crop
05-07-2015 , 05:38 PM
don't bring philosophy into this, bitch. I will end you.
