03-29-2010 , 12:36 AM
happy pesach. one of the few holidays i follow for the most part - at least i dont intentionally eat bread or breaded things. but ill have corn, rice, etc

also, thanks for the effort on the avatar pyro. here's the original riley image and a reposting of my mad american baseball hat:

also don't feel a need to line the hat up with his face, i'm pretty sure riley doesn't rock the baseball hat straight forward. he is more of a saigon guy than a rza guy

I'm not Jewish, though I probably should be. But all my bridge-playing friends are, and a lot of the math department is. I probably understand kashrut and other Jewish laws better than some Jews...

wyman you have a wifi widget, or the power widget set up?
03-29-2010 , 12:43 AM
i dont believe in most of the kashrut laws because they are manmade from the talmud and not from the torah
03-29-2010 , 12:44 AM
I'm not jewish, but i loaned someone money once
03-29-2010 , 12:45 AM
A jewish kid says to his dad, "Dad I need 10 dollars"

"5 dollars?" he responds. "What do you need 2 dollars for?"

Most of them are antiquated anyway and make no sense other than for tradition's sake. I'm all for tradition, but I'm even more for cheesesteak, chicken parm, catfish, shrimp, and bacon.

well even if you take the bible at face value, shrimp and bacon aren't allowed (crusteans are bad, animals need to be cloven footed, chew their cud, etc)

but the cheesesteak thing ...

"thou shall not cook a lamb in its mother's milk"

that's it. and they decided that means you cannot eat dairy with meat
03-29-2010 , 12:51 AM
It's like an Israeli parsnip

Meh, Jews are full of metaphors.

And part of it is avoiding not only impropriety, but the appearance of impropriety.

so you're saying i can eat a burger with goat cheese but not cow's cheese?

(it doesn't matter, i'm all about a bacon cheeseburger with cheddar when given the option)

Probably. But again, when Heschel sees you eating the burger (not knowing it's goat cheese), and he starts talking, you might get banned from the Yeshiva.

edit: hence the rabbis making the rule
