idk if im for gun control or not.

say if every worker, protestor, had a gun, then workers and protestors would have a lot more power, right?

but idk... seems very likely that would end in a huge slaughter of workers and protestors, right?

I think they believed the society they were creating was what they said it was. That's how ****ed up it is. They didn't believe Native Americans or slaves were people (men). They didn't believe women were people. To them going from a random King to letting them be ultra absurdly wealthy landowners who could do what they want was their version of "freedom and equality".

The same way there are people now who think that capitalism and what we have now is a "free market".

yeah, generally villains see themselves as heroes. like hitler thought he was doing good! he thought he was making the world a better place smh

but im guessing obama knows better. probably sometimes he thinks he's doing real good, but i think mostly he knows he's doing evil

There are villains and there are useful idiots. It isn't usually necessary to sort them out and sometimes it's impossible.

Plato argued that nobody does "bad" intentionally. At worst, people have misplaced conceptions of "good".

I wish I didn't have to disagree with you so much...

but come on, man. The "bill of rights" isn't limited to landowners.

Why do you have to take everything so far? Isn't it enough to identify tendencies without resorting to repleteness?

In the interview, Ocasio-Cortez presents the Democratic Party as having been completely transformed into a working class party. She says the Biden administration and incumbent Democrats are “totally reinvent[ing] themselves in a far more progressive direction.” Pressure from the left has forced “almost a radical change” among entrenched Democratic leaders. What is needed, she says, is a turn deeper into Democratic Party electoral politics.

The only barrier to the Democratic Party establishment achieving perfection is left-wing opposition. This politician who made a career criticizing the “Democratic establishment” and posturing as an outsider has now transformed herself into the establishment’s fiercest defender and a most bitter opponent of outside critics.

McIntosh asks, “Some on the Left have looked at Biden’s record and his difference with the Bernie wing of the party, and they conclude that no progress is going to come out of the Biden administration. What’s your view?”

She replies:

Well, I think it’s a really privileged critique. We’re gonna have to focus on solidarity with one another, developing our senses for good faith critique and bad faith critique. Because bad faith critique can destroy everything that we have built so swiftly. And we know this because it has in the past, and it’s taken us so many decades to get to this point. We do not have the time or the luxury to entertain bad faith actors in our movement.
Who could have seen this coming?????

The Minnesota Supreme Court unanimously overturned a man’s rape conviction, ruling he cannot be found guilty because the woman who accused him had voluntarily consumed alcohol before the rape. At the center of the ruling is a Minnesota law that states a person is only considered “mentally incapacitated” and unable to consent to sex if they’ve been given alcohol or other substances against their will. Sexual assault survivors and advocates say the ruling demonstrates the urgent need to update state laws.
this is unbelievable. so anyone who drinks can then be raped after?

not familiar w/ the details of the case, but

generally, you can't argue "diminished mental capacity" if you voluntarily diminished your own mental capacity

so for eg, I can't get loaded, beat up a guy, and then say "I was drunk, it wasn't intentional"

if her testimony was "yeah, I consented, but only because I was drunk", then she is basically arguing diminished mental capacity

if she is drunk and says "no", then the "Voluntary Intoxication" doctrine would not apply and the dude could be convicted

if she was drugged against her will (let's say the guy poured her a stiffer drink than she intended to imbibe), the doctrine wouldn't apply
