i learned about the law of value, and how capitalism needs to go. i think before birdman and the politics thread, i thought capitalism could maybe work.

it also helps me talk to my friends who want to vote for joe biden.

Kelhus jumped into the discussion in an organic manner.
You brought up J.K Rowling, then me and pwns discussed it, then Kelhus came in. He didn't come here to post about gametes or his crazy ideas on sex and gender. It was served up for him. And you went crazy arguing his posting should be banned like he was posting third reich era race science.

Wn, I consider you an ally and friend. I just think maybe I’m dumb for doing so.

some are born biggoted trolls, some achieve trollish biggotry, and some have the mantle of biggoted troll thrust upon them

the politics thread during the kavenaugh hearings was pretty incredible. i don't think we could have had that kind of conversation anywhere else. at least i couldn't in my life. it wouldn't have been the same in the politics forum, or even the pog pub. not in real life, or on fb whatever other social media site.

if someone close to you gives you constructive criticism, you can easily feel attacked, because well it *IS* an attack lol. and if a complete stranger gives you constructive criticism you can easily dismiss it. but for me, my pog friends are a great balance. they are strangers enough that i'm not too hurt when they criticize my beliefs. but they aren't strangers. i respect and care about them, and the feeling is mutual, at least somewhat.

The Kelhus conversation should be settled after Soahs piece. He broke the terms of his ban settlement.

Birds point is fair about people not playing games due to politics, but I don’t know if that’s all bad. I (and absolutely others) would rather not play games with certain people, and that’s okay. Could hurt numbers of some games, but good for people to be able to choose who they’d like to associate with.

well named supports keeping some people free from consequences for what they say. He thinks that's a good principle. Meanwhile, everybody else pays a price for what they say and it doesn't bother him. shrug.

On issues I doubt you two disagree much.

******* NOT IN *******

I saw Chips Ahoy, well named and soah post on this thread, so I couldn’t help but spam. You are all cordially invited to play VR’s CYOA game starting on Tuesday. I would be thrilled if any of you signed up.

Presumably about this:

What I meant is something like: you wrote a post expressing dismay about the position I took. I don't want to ignore your post, because your opinion is valuable to me. But your post wasn't directly to me, and in this context it feels more appropriate to try to listen to you than to try to jump right into trying to persuade you of my position. Hence the invitation.

No, this is a pretty poor attempt to understand me, IMO. I would normally ignore this post but I respect you too much not to at least state my disagreement. You're taking far too reductive a view of the possible consequences of speech if it's either permanent ban or nothing.

i wish well named posted here more. i had fun playing ww with him, and talking trash. i liked the jokes about his marriage and life in montana. good times.

something i love about well named is his ability to laugh at himself. a very admirable trait.

Chewing you out just seems to imply that I feel hostile toward you, and I... I don’t? And it just confuses me that you’d think I would...

I’m tired, I think I’m gonna take a break. Bbl loves.

11 week old kid, full time teaching load, and dissertation data collection has begun.

But now that ya mention it, should fit in a Wire rewatch.
